Wondering if anyone knows of a nice preferably smaller, possibly a bit off grid or mixed van/tenting, campsite for tenting around Inverary or beyond down to the Campbeltown end of the peninsular (not further east towards Loch Lomond). Water side preferred and ability to launch kayak.
Have looked at the search facility and generally checked online but few that tick the boxes for me.
thanks.

Nothing along the bit of coast by Inverary other than the big commercial site.

Muasdale is pretty perfect, pitches right on the beach. Don't let the holiday park in the name put you off as the touring is just for 4 or 5 units on the beach.

Muasdale sure, but it’s down into Kintyre, a couple of hours away from Inveraray. You can launch into the adjacent river & thence open water at Carradale, but that’s about as far down Kintyre as Muasdale.
The “big” commercial site west of Inveraray is fine, we’ve stayed there often; it’s well used by people launching from the shore. Don’t be put off by the statics at the entrance, the pitches are by the shore.
Further down the coast, Lochgilphead has a simple site but the nearby shore doesn’t work for sea launching as it’s a typical head of the loch, muddy. But you’re across the road to the middle of Crinan Canal, ultimately accessing the sea at Crinan or Ardrishaig in either direction.
Sites round Loch Lomond all give direct access to the water. The east side (Millarochy, Cashel) is quieter.
Portavadie is at a Marina, turn left on the way to Inveraray or get there by 2 ferries from the mainland.
The Site Search on here may have the option to tick for waterside or for boat launching, I can’t remember the specific wording.

Thanks for the replies, glad I asked as I'd overlooked Muasdale. It looks great and right up my street so good to know about at least, though fully booked for the rest of the year by the looks of it. Still will bear that in mind for another time.
Fiona the big commercial site you refer to west of Inveraray, is that Argyll Caravan Park? I'd discounted that as (on the search facility listing on this site) the tenting is greyed out, meaning no pitches. Or am I getting mixed up?
Thanks

Yes, Argyll Caravan Park & you’re right, no tents, I didn’t check. Sorry!
I’ve tented at the other sites in the past or seen tents at them. Check other Kintyre sites if Muasdale is booked up.

Non worries Fiona. While I'm at it is Oban Caravan and Camping Park a good option given my preferences? It's big but looks nice but can't really tell for sure if it has kayak beach and wild swimming on site (or close would be acceptable). Thanks

Have a look at the UKCS directory entry as it has useful aerial photos. (Very very similar name to the CCC site called Oban that’s actually at Benderloch). I seem to recall small boats launching from the seaward side of the road by the site entrance. Read some of the tent reviews as they’re in a different part of the site to where we were in the MH, where you won’t be aware of the size of the site except at shower time. Nice views.
