i am asking the title do you book cl's, as i always do, as end of day its private property, i was pitched up on a cl on angelsey this week, and my neighbour was taking their caravan home, and later in the evening a motorhome drove on and pitched up, using the hookup and freshwater tap. then later a campervan slowly drove along site as though looking for a pitch, turned round at end then went to park near the gate, a little while later the owner of the cl walked up to the motorhome and politely told them they had to go, turned out according to them they had booked a cl but couldn't find it so saw sign and drove in and pitched, how many on here would just turnup without speaking to the owner first in 40+ years iv'e never done it.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
That's appalling that they should just bowl up and pitch! How would they know whether or not it was reserved for a late arrival, or simply temporarily vacated by a MH, or indeed if the site had reason not to let the pitch, grass pitches are often 'cycled' to give them a rest period!
I've always pre-booked CL's, but certainly turned up and pitched where I like with prior permission/instruction from owner on understanding they would catch up with me later, but the pitch was a firm booking first.
If I found myself stuck and needing an emergency pitch (been in that situation when seriously delayed on long journey and not able to get back to storage yard before lockdown!), I'd have the common decency to ask the owners if it was possible to stay BEFORE pitching!
There really are some terribly thoughtless, self indulgent, uncouth people to be found in the camping world these days!
This of course is the French way, there you can, and do, just turn up. I've never booked a site in France, and have turned up at unmanned sites and paid in the morning. One site I pushed the money under the reception office door as no one had come.
We have pulled up at CL's unbooked many times. If there isn't anything to say if they have free pitches we ring and ask.
We often come in late and leave early, why would anyone think we hadn't paid? We often pay by bank transfer or we carry envelopes and put cash in the door.
Disregards whether it's right or wrong, it's all down to respect at the end of the day no matter what country or campsite you are visiting and there's not much of it around these days unfortunately.
