In September I am going to the IOW, in my campervan, though I am looknig for a campsite close to Portsmouth Harbour, so can sail in the morning, can anyone recommend one?
I know as Portsmouth built up, the campsite be outside town, but looking for a quick drive in the morning.
Failing that I don't mind a bit of wild camping in a carpark!
Thanks

The search facility throws up a fair number of sites within 10 miles, you won't really find anything much closer as it's a very heavily built up area. Some of those sites have 'ferry pitches' to enable you to set off with ease to catch a ferry.
Wild camping in a car park? Depends on your height, many car parks have height restrictions, we couldn't get a Land Rover with roof rack (empty, just the rack height alone stopped us!) in all those we found, think it was just shy of 2.6m high. Only place we could get in was Port Solent complex, but we still battered many of the short/low hanging trees in the general car parking areas.
The general area gets pretty busy in the morning rush hour, so leave plenty of time to negotiate through the traffic to get to the port in good time.
Portsmouth Harbour website https://portsmouth-port.co.uk/ says:
'Motorhome and caravan parking
There is limited parking for these vehicles prior to early morning sailings, on the hard standing in front of the multi-storey car park. Vehicles are permitted to park along the yellow fenceline after 10pm when the last sailing has embarked. Please ensure you adhere to these parking places at the correct times and alert Security in the terminal that you are there. You are required to stay with your vehicle at all times.'
Fiona, I think your post may refer to parking before catching ferries to France and Spain, but the questioner is going to the Isle of Wight from a different part of the port.

Nesty , For overnight on car park contact Port Solent Marina complex and ask if they still allow it.
For overnight at a site if not a Club member contact Dibles Parkat Warsash.
For overnight at a site if you are a Club member use their main sites or their CS / CL lists.
We saw a good dozen or so motorhomes/campervans obviously overnighting at Port Solent when we were there in May this year (killing time before our overnight sailing). There is access to the car parks without height barriers if you use the entrance from the road down to the Marina.

Sorry!
Know the port quite well, the area referred to is definitely for the continental crossings, and once in there not sure you can get out again easily as a one way system through the check-in booths. The IOW ferry is on an entirely different dock someway further down the road, and not internally linked to the continental ferry dock.
