My Wife and I will be looking to buy a caravan in the new year. Due to the fact we live in an apartment we do not have available space to park and store the van. We live in Henley-on-Thames and we looking for a storage facility and camp site to store and pick up when on our travels. I have trolled the internet and to be honest it keeps directing me to storage facilities. Any help, suggestions and or rough price guide would be really welcomed.
Thank for your help.
Neil

Hi Neil, to far away for you (Royston Herts) but we store our van on a Caravan club lock up. Good security 5 star rated cost is approx £700/pa. Just back from 6 nights on a Suffolk site and noted that seasonal pitches were on offer for £2000/2500. That would get you around 10 months on a pitch. If you can find a local lock up, suggest to get your name on the list ASAP, they are in short supply.
The best place to look is for a storage compound specifically designed for keeping caravans and motorhomes fully secured 24/7. If you click on the link below you just need to enter the specific details required then it will provide a list of storage facilities in that area.
My god £700 a year in storage fees.
That is unbelievable, when our van was on a ‘gold secure site’ I thought £420 was bad enough. We now store at a dedicated caravan storage site closer to home, it has no accreditation and about £100 pa less.
We have just changed our caravan to a twin axle on the new storage and the increase in insurance premium was £58. This is with Ripe Insurance.
Thanks for all your comments. It looks like if zI buy a van via a dealer you stand more chance of securing storage. Looked at a nice used 5 berth today and they offered storage if I buy from them. 50 a month. Just getting our heads around caravanning. Just studying tow bars and electric hookup, insurance etc etc,. But thank to all.

Or, use the Site Search to find a campsite that takes seasonals for the first year, while you look at alternatives. (We have no secure storage in my area but plenty of farmers store caravans in a barn or field.) Some sites leave it on the pitch & others tow it on when you’re coming.
Yeh I have checked all farmers in my area, that said there is one potential I need to check out. We didn't want to site the van and be strapped to one site. We want to tour and the offer of 50 a month is what our local sites charge. I am on a site waiting list.

There actually is secure storage in Ayrshire.

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Split pin, £50 a month is pretty common these days, actually finding any storage is more difficult.
Having been in the position of beggars can't be choosers, we took storage which was about 15 miles from home, doesn't sound much but a round trip to and from was quite time consuming, our current storage sites is 10 minutes from home, much more convenient.
Things to consider when looking for storage is how easy is access, do you need to give notice to get access? Can you access your van directly or do you have to wait for the site to extract it? How secure the site is? Will your van be stored on hard or soft standing (e.g. grass etc), this could make the van more difficult to extract in the wetter months and possibly more prone to critter access.

Thanks for the advise Mr Wez. All good points to bear in mind when looking for secure storage. Buying a used caravan is some what challenging!!! No different to buying a car and really ensuring the documentation stacks up!!
