Independent one at Town Yetholm, south of Kelso (with Abbey & big town square) in the Cheviot Hills, would be my favourite.
Selkirk is indeed pretty much a car park & hasn’t appealed to us either; town merits an hour or so. Melrose is a place to visit for the Abbey & gardens & niche shops but it’s an expensive CAMC club site. Lilliardsedge near Jedburgh (another abbey) is too commercial for you. One at Chainbridge (inland from Berwick upon Tweed) is an immaculate wee independent site but it may cost more than your limit. I’m thinking there may be somewhere along the coast that might suit - not the static type but there are some small ones without toilets, but we use site loos so I can’t vouch for any.
I’ll put my thinking cap on….
Thanks Fiona, we stayed at the Club site at Melrose many years ago. I have clocked the site at Town Yetholm, it's a bit dear at £28.50 but a possibility. We stayed near Eyemouth last year. We would start near Berwick and then go west, the plan is to combine with the Cumbrian coast. Several stops up and down of course.
Thanks, change of plan I think, there is what sounds like a nice site at Ford, just in England near Cornhill on Tweed, so may go that way. £30 for hardstanding, £25 for grass, £20 for off grid. No prizes for guessing which we would choose.
Thirlstane will show up as Lauder: it’s between Thirlstane estate & the town of Lauder. There are reviews here (so I won’t add my opinion) but it has statics, so I doubt it’s in budget.
The C&CC Lauder site is at Carfraemill, just north of Lauder on the A697 near the junction with the A68.
The Thirlestane Castle Caravan Park is just out of Lauder in the grounds of Thirlestane Estate. We camped there years ago with the kids because we live near there. I have not been there since it was modernised.

Indeed, it’s a bit cheeky of CCC to call that site Lauder when it’s quite a distance away (like their Oban site). The Thirlstane site is on the UKCS map unless it’s gone over to the dark side (all static). It’s better, as Lauder is a short walk away.

Can't seem to find the price, but there is also a C&CC club site at Lauder. I will have to look at the midweek discount price
We stayed a night at Thirlaston last year £24 including showers and unmetered electric. Lots of statics but tourers in a separate area.
