It's not in the school holidays it's on the bank holiday so most people will be off for the 3 days not the 5 unless of course they book it off I just think its unfair of sites to do it I get that other people don't mind the 5 but I just think it's abit brass neck
We would find somewhere else. Can understand the minimum 3 nights on a Bank holiday, but not 5!

Just been to a site at the other end of the country, between Halstead and Sudbury. Reviews of both to do soon. Looking forward to Tilbury Fort, the foot ferry over the Thames and the bird reserves.
It's a tadddd to cold for us yet
Us too! I don't even think about de-winterising my caravan until at least the end of March, and if we are still getting frosts not even then. It's usually ready for winter by the end of October.

We just wear warmer clothes.
We are more restricted financially, so we only book holidays when we know that we are most likely to enjoy them. That usually means June, July and September. Home is the place to be in winter and school holidays. We might have the odd couple of days away in spring if the weather is warm enough though.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin

If we stop going to these places & paying these high fees, the owners will have empty sites & will stop charging silly prices in order to get some business. There are plenty of other sites in the UKCS site directory.

That's a view many of us hold, but it seems there are mugs aplenty that for whatever reason will continue to pay over the odds!
There is some hope though, it does rather look like the big clubs have paid the price for their greed, and many reductions and deals are now on offer to entice the punters back. Suspect they have seen old members leaving in significant numbers and got the message! - they are always keen to publicise how many new members they've acquired, but strangely never how many existing members gave up on them and left! - I've known quite a few who were driven away by prices!
We only use CLs/CS or other £25 or less sites. The man we sold our Mitsubishi to (who has already sold it on) only goes to Club sites but will stay overnight at service stations. We tried that once .. never again. Apparently, according to him, we don't go to "proper" sites.

Have to admit, that the cold alone is not too much of a disincentive to use the van at this time of year, but having to 'de-winterise' it and then 'winterise' it again after a brief use is a HUGE disincentive to me!
I do a thorough job of removing all fluids from the van and 'blow through' the water system to clear all residual water after drain down (there is quite a lot that is not cleared by a normal drain down, even after hours/miles on the journey home!), so no risk of freezing damage. That's a bit of a chore when done at leisure pre-winter, but after return from a trip and putting the van back into storage, it would need doing with urgency before leaving the van in potential freezing temperatures, and with both dark and the 5pm deadline to be off storage yard, that is a PITA. I also tend to strip the van contents for winter storage, so it would need 'restocking' and 'de-stocking' for a trip.
It all seems too much of a faff! - think the prep and clear up would take a lot of the joy out of a winter trip away. In 'normal' use, the van is kept pretty much ready to go, so minimal 'faff' to get away, and equally easy to pop back into storage after use. Maybe if your van is on your driveway, it's easier, but mines at least 45mins away in storage!
Our caravan is kept right outside our front door so it's very easy for us to Winterise it, and not much longer to re-stock it in spring. I'm not sure that keeping it in a storage site would work for us. For one thing the expense would probably rule it out, as if we had to pay out for that we would have to forgo one of our holidays. Apart from that though I like having it right outside. Last year I had a big job to do on it replacing rotten wood around the front windows, and it was so much easier to do where it was, as I could run a power lead out to it to use power tools, and all my tools were on-hand in my shed out the back. I could run a heater too so that I could still work in the cold.
I still remember trying to work on my boat when I had it. The moorings are only a mile from my house, but if I went down there to do a job on it I invariably left something at home that I needed. Running backwards and forwards for things I had left at home took up most of the time I had available. Then of course I had no power down there, so if I needed it I had to lug a generator with me.
