I was a member of the C&CC for many years but left when they started turning all the best level pitches into hard standings for caravans. They have now gone even further providing large areas for motorhomes. Tent campers are left with pitches that are not suitable for caravans or motorhomes, often because they are not level.
After leaving the C&CC I found many equally good private sites, most of them far less expensive even taking into account the "members discount".
It depends what you are hoping to get out of the club.
For me personally, I stay at one of their club sites once a year over Easter, and the non-member nighly fee for that one trip alone is sufficient for my single membership fee.
I don't use their Certified Locations for personal reasons; however, lots of C&CC members on this board swear by them.
Why not try it for a year, and don't renew if it does not suit?

It’s a regular question here. CCC if you have a tent, not all CAMC sites take tents. If you’re over 65, it’s cheaper.
Look at the CCC website & see where the Club sites are. If they’re where you’d like to go, and you’d stay on them for 4 or 5 days, the saving you get by being a member pays for the membership. So family have effectively given you a holiday. Then do the same for CAMC.
We debate every year about rejoining CCC because there are no Club sites where we want to go. We only use their Moffat site because it’s a useful place for us to kick off a trip in any number of directions.
And if you fancy the small Certificated places but want an on-site toilet, use the Site Search on UKCS & tick “only show” club sites & toilets / showers or whatever else & see if the places are where you’d like to go, or not. For whatever reason, the CAMC CLs are far far more common in our favourite area than CCC CSs.
I made a mistake in my post: C&CC = Certified Sites (CSs), CAMC = Certified Locations (CLs).
I am a member of both clubs, C&CC since 2007, and CAMC since 2021 when I switched unit from a tent to a MH.

We've been members of C&CC since we returned to caravanning in 2013 and have no problems with them. We are on a very limited budget, but consider the membership fee to be worthwhile if you look at it as a weekly amount, so we continue. We do use their Sandringham site quite regularly, but don't always use their sites elsewhere as even including our pensioners' discounts often independent sites are cheaper and just as good. All depends what you want really.
As others have said, try them for a year and see what you think.

The only reason that we are members of the C&CC is because of their sites in Keswick. We go to a week long conference in Keswick every year and the only sites that are within walking distance of the venue are the two C&CC sites. We stay for 8 nights and this more than covers the cost of the membership as the surcharge for non members is over £100 for a week.
If we didn’t go to that conference, I wouldn’t bother with membership as we have found lots of great privately owned sites around the country that are much better and also cheaper than either of the two main clubs.

There are cheaper commercial sites especially out of main season. We are on one next week full service hard standing 20 pound per night.
Club site 1/2 mile away with just hard standing electric and age reduction 4 pound a night dearer.

One of the things we find that often makes C&CC sites dearer is that they have Low, Mid, and High seasons and when we tend to go always falls in Mid season. We never go away in High season. Commercial sites normally only have High and Low seasons, and when we go falls in their Low season. For example, the first two weeks of July and the first week of September. C&CC Mid season is often not that much cheaper than their High season. To get C&CC Low season prices you have to go away in what we would call winter, which we never do.
CAMC has seasons too, cheaper mid week: completely unpredictable, because use “dynamic charging” & they charge more for popular sites at busy times (£42+ for members, £10 more if not). Commercial chains can charge this much too. And not all small independent sites have seasons - our favourite is £25 all year, including EHU, hard standing, showers etc. Even the dog is free.
But I agree: try whichever club has sites where you want to stay.

We went on a very nice adults-only commercial site in Lincolnshire at the beginning of July this year that charges £25 a night all-in all year round. That included hard-standing and 16 amp EHU. I left a review on here and I would recommend it.
No way would I even think about £50 a night or even £45. I'd want hotel service for that!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
