My granddaughter and a few friends want to plan a camping trip for the summer, but they will need to be able to get there by public transport. There's also the 'group of teens' issue!
She has the experience camping, both with us and Scouts, so I'm happy to let her go, if it is achievable.
I wondered if anyone has any suggestions?

Alison

As the area I know best is north of Manchester, I looked at the bus services from Lancaster, or Carnforth. And there are buses from there up into the Lake District, Kendal etc. Or the trains go round Morecambe Bay to Grange, Ulverston etc.
I can't help with suitable campsites, that will depend on the ages, number of persons etc. Each campsite will have its own rules.
We are going to a site just outside of Hartington in June which is just past Buxton. Loads of sites round there as we go for long weekends in this area a few times a year. Also sites in and around Matlock/Cromford where you can get a train to

Go to Google maps, put in Manchester & add the “public transport” layer: shown in different colours, they’re trains (from memory). I’d suggest you then put Ashton under Lyme into theUKCS site search, & head east from there on local bus into the hills around Snake Pass. There’s a CCC site, by the looks of it, beyond Glossop: they’d advise, as will any decent site owner, on local public transport. Or check buses from Manchester to Sheffield, and see if there are sites along the route.

The title of the original question was public transport from Manchester. Google says Harlech is over 2.5 hours drive away from Manchester. Something closer might be better on this occasion…
