Plymouth Riverside Touring Park - no Club membership required. Easy access to sea front, the Hoe, the historic Barbican, three National Trust properties, off road cycle trail and the whole of Dartmoor National park. Come on down. This is Ocean City.

Delamere Forest C& CC site is in a lovely setting. Right next to a railway station with trains to Chester and Manchester. A really nice cafe in the station and a pub in walking distance.
Morris Leisure have a site in Shrewsbury with bus stop adjacent, also a site at Ludlow, which is a lovely old town.Lots of pubs and restaurants and a market.
Bus stop by the site or a half hour walk into town.
Also Ferry Meadows CMC site on the outskirts of Peterbrough with a heritage steam railway very close and next to a big country park.

Lots of food for thought.
I joined the CAMC yesterday and currently planning on Canterbury C&CC with a stop for 2 nights on the way down to Ferry Meadows CAMC to visit Burghley house.
Thanks for all the help folks.
As you've joined the CAMC, I'd recommend Warwick Racecourse (perfect for the town and castle), Tewkesbury Abbey (lovely town but campsite can flood) and Berwick upon Tweed, which has amazing views

It does seem to me that a lot of people fail to look beyond Club sites - yet there are lots of other camping options for city visits
As well as Plymouth which I mentioned earlier, Cardif has a site in parkland within walking range of the city centre, Stratford on Avon has a site on the racecourse, Cambridge has a good site called Highfield Farm Touring Park - and no Club membership is needed for any of them.

Just realised I have not contributed to this thread: Salisbury C&CC Club site is about 45min at my pace on foot along the river bank which is a flat pram walk.
Although not a city, my home town which is Devizes and it is 6miles from the C&CC's Devizes club site, along the canal tow path. Caen Hill Flight with its 28 locks is definitely worth a visit.

Agree with you Netherton. The Racecourse site at Stratford is fine. There is also a CL, Ingon Bank on the old Birmingham road, and another by the roundabout near the start of the Alcester road which we have not used. Then there is Hampton House, just off the road from Wellesbourne to Kineton, so not far from Stratford, Leamington and Warwick.
A day of all things motorhome and campervan. The show is held both in the main indoor arena and across the grounds. Catering, hot drinks and food options are available. Easy access to the site and free parking included. Win one of five pairs of day tickets
