Not that helpful as I have not stayed there, but my parents lived at St Harmon a few miles north of Rhayader, so I knew the area well. The site is just off the A road, so there will probably be a bit of traffic noise but on the flip side club sites are almost always well run. The town is well worth a visit, with lots of pubs in easy walking distance. The Triangle, on the way out to the dams used to do a good meal - small, so I would book. There is good walking in the area and the dams are impressive, particularly after rain. I would give it a go.
Don't know it personally, but club sites tend to be reliable and of a generally high standard. The club web site give details of the facilities, and the first review I saw said "... suitable for older couples …".
"Suitable for a couple of oldies" is a very broad query, are you looking for peace and quite without marauding children, or do you need level solid ground, minimal steps or hills etc. I'm an oldie, but not found any formal sites beyond my abilities, and I pick sites/pitches away from children when I can, all seems to work out for me.
We stayed there with our caravan for maybe 3 nights a few years ago (retired couple) - I seem to remember a pleasant site, level pitches, quiet, a path from the site into the small town, through a park(?), decent dog walks in the area. There were some serious walkers/bikers staying on site, so plenty of trails in the area.
We stayed there mainly so we could see the Red Kite feeding nearby and we enjoyed a trip out to the dams. Would happily stay again.
