We have just returned home from our first visit to this site.
It was a spur of the moment booking, breaking our journey home, so I did not research dog-walking possibilities in advance as I would normally do.
There is a very short dog walk on site, approx. 100 metres long, but off-site walks were not immediately obvious.
I asked one of the wardens who said to go to Richmond (several miles away) and look for one of the many the signs for footpaths - not particularly helpful!
We really liked the site and would like to return, but would like to know whether anyone knows of any dog walks (on or off lead) directly from the site or within a short drive?
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
As the OP mentions wardens I'm assuming, although one should never assume, that it's the main CAMC site at Richmond North Yorkshire.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Correct - well deduced, though I did mention the CMC in the title of the post

Thank you for your replies.
I will make sure I do my research before we go again.
Just a thought, that given the number of people who seem to have dogs with them, it would be helpful for sites to have details of local walks in a leaflet or downloadable form.
For the value compared to a single OS printed map the OS app membership for £35 a year is well worth it.
You have all maps and access to thousands of walks other users have uploaded. Or if visting an area you can plot your own very easily. The system will generate a walking route between the two points chosen which you can then save and share.

I wasn't aware of that. Worth looking into, thank you.

The site doesn't seem to be listed on here, or has it another name? If it were, useful dog walking info could be put in a review.
It is listed on here, under Richmond Hargill House Caravan and Motorhome club Site.

Depends on the site managers, I think. The CAMC site at Ayr Craigie Gardens has a typed summary of the local walks that you can tear off in the information room to take with you.
Some sites have dog toys to borrow eg Yellowcraig near N Berwick & the one at Berwick upon Tweed that isn’t called Berwick upon Tweed. And Forfar even has a wall of photos of camping dogs - but the managers there do a lot of fundraising for the local centre that’s training guide dogs for the blind.
I posted a similar one earlier, that’s specific to the campsite : https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/poi/england/north-yorkshire/richmond--2/richmond-caravan-park
I don’t know how to do URLs though… must find out.
Thanks for the link to a website called Wagfinder. It might be new? as there’s zero information for the town on Deeside that we’re heading to, where we’ve enjoyed many long walks & an excellent dog-friendly pub. I’ll keep an eye on it, it wasn’t helpful this time, but thanks for posting.
Fiona, there are probably dozens of similar web sites for dog walks, I just quickly grabbed a couple of Google finds as examples, trouble is they often fall into 'neglect' and go out of date, or simply disappear so bookmarked ones are no help!
But I've found various ones useful over the years, as some routes are pretty dog unfriendly if venturing off in relative ignorance. My dog is pretty adept at learning how to deal with various stiles and most don't present a problem, even if I have to grab her harness handle and without dignity lift her over (a Border Collie at 18Kg, it's sometimes easier said than done!).
A real no-no for me (with dog) is ladder stiles! Dog would probably climb up OK, but her jumping 6-7ft off the top fills me with dread, she's too old to be throwing herself at the countryside like that! As to me teetering on the top with 18Kg of protesting dog in one hand whilst trying to clamber over the top, I'm also far too old to be throwing myself at the countryside from that height when it all goes wrong! Forewarned is forearmed, and routes with tricky stiles are best avoided.
As to posting links, if using the full UKCS website on say a laptop (as opposed to cut down version on a phone etc.), on the Icons along the top of the message window where you type, there's a obscure Icon with "(Add a Link)" next to it, that opens a box where you put the web link, and the OK button then formats it correctly in the post.
