Will say I've never had a problem with e-mails but have found lately that I just get answerphones when I've rung a couple of sites, and it puts me off slightly.

I think answerphones are excusable - after all it's a busy time for sites, and they may be dealing with people checking-in etc. Personally, I hate it when I'm trying to check-in and the wardens answer the phone, leaving me waiting.
However, they SHOULD check e-mails at least once a day, and it really doesn't take a great deal of effort to reply. We should definitely 'vote with our feet / wheels / groundsheets', and avoid such sites!
We try an check our emails at least 3 times a day, more if we can, and we always reply to emails, even if we cant accommodate on our site those emailing us for the dates they want.
Regarding answerphone - our site is small - run by me and my husband - as Lizzo says if we are dealing with people checking in; or have customers in our shop, it is very rude to answer the phone, and we dont do it - when we are out on the site it is not always possible to have a phone with us, but we always ring back if a message is left.
By the way - when ringing and the answerphone cuts in please, please leave a message - we get so many people ringing, then when the answerphone cuts in they put the phone down. We will always ring you back if you leave a message.
We check our e-mails usually three times a day and answer them all.
There is also an answer phone and we reply to messages left there also ASAP.
We are a very small site and it would not be economic to have one of us by the phone all summer. Someone has too look after the farm after all but I hope that we reply to everyone as soon as we can

I also e-mailed around 10 sites & only had 1 reply & that was straight to the point"Fully Booked".. We are hopefully going away on Tuesday but haven't booked anywhere yet I think I'll be phoning around later because I doubt I'll have replys...
P.S I live within minutes of the Plassey camp site beautiful site if you haven't been..
I don't see the name and shame scenario as a good idea myself. I think campsite owners and managers have enough upstarts to practice their customer care skills on without a community such as campsiteuk getting an anti class together.
True some sites may not be bothered and maybe some have email through progression of technology, but their heart may be set in the laid back approach of non commercialism and relaxed (to the annoyance of some) practices. We've all fell into a campsite without reviews and found a gem so let’s not knock em to hard.
All in all, if you don't get what you yourself expect from a campsite enquiry it's up to you to move on and source your customer care requirements elsewhere.
One last note, if the phone or internet isn't manned then maybe the lack of a staff member reflects in the pitch fees? If the replies were made by owner or staff someone’s still got to complete the mountain of on site jobs that's not realised by the occasional camper.

Thanks John we only live in Johnstown so the Plassey is a bit near for us LOL ,I have suggested it to my husband once or twice though he just laughs & say's but we only live 5 minutes away.. Your camp is so beautiful I sometimes wish it was a bit further away from us, We come to your resturant quite often though lovely food...I would recommend it to anyone ...
Just like to vouch for John's quick replies. Received a response to my email within a few hours today (too bad it was the wrong answer! I knew I was pushing my luck for BH but had to try. - if you have any cancallations John please let me know 26-29th). I'll keep trying any suggestions for this sort of area from anyone?
