As we live on the isle of wight and are surrounded by sea, we'd like to camp next to a river on the mainland. Does anyone know of a good site in the UK south where you can do this and that accepts campervans? Were not looking for entertainments, just a river and a shower block!
Thank you in advance.

Must be absolutely loads. Why don't you click on the 'camp site search' box at the top of this page. You'll be able to find out which ones have rivers/lakes etc. when you click on the individual sites. You can just type in a place/area name where you fancy going and see what comes up. It's a brilliant function as is everything on ukcs!
Btw, you are so-o-o lucky living near the sea, all the sea fishing hubby and I would be able to do if we were closer. Nearest sea for us, 25 miles away and he never has time to come with me - drat!
Hello Pro, Yes if you go on camp site searsh as happy chick suggested then type in Riverside in the search box (remember to tick campsite name underneath). It will come up with campsites all over.
Hippy chick. You know how it is having facilities such as the sea on your doorstep, you fail to appreciate them, however I did take the kids crabbing last week and in true begginers luck, my partners 10 year old daughter cought a fish on her crab line!! And within minutes of dunking her hook and bacon!
Thank you for the search tip.

Ah, haaaa, another fisher on the hook now then? Once you've caught something, you're hooked for life! You watch, get her a little telescopic rod and reel and she'll be eager tp join the ever swelling ranks of us 'fishermen', (yep general term-hate the 'angleress' or fisherwoman thing - shudder....). That's how my son got hooked too with his first crab in Brixham, then hubby and I got hooked but sadly daughter never caught any crabs so she wasn't enthusiastic about the whole business and still isn't, (27 now), although her hubby likes fishing.
Mind you it's much the same with the facilities on the doorstep thing. I've lived in London pretty much all my life, (East end until 19), and only really got to see the London sights when going around them with relations coming down from Scotland or the states! Go figure!
Bit out of the area you specified Pro...but if your ever heading north you could try Linton Lock Liesureways campsite at Linton on Ouse North Yorks(see their website in the campsites section under North Yorks) A very basic site(and I MEAN very basic..no hot water in toilet sinks etc) 10 mins on foot to the village..small pub/resturaunt on site..limited EHU and thats basicly it...but if you want peace and quiet...beutiful scenery...long walks along the river...fishing...watching the boats go by etc..etc..this could be for you....Just come home yesterday from 12 days on this site...and from those 12 days we had the feild to ourselves on at least 5 of them....gets busy on a w/end...but during the week..most Ive ever seen is 3-4 other tents/vans on the site...This is our 3rd year in a row on this site(for our main hols) and we loved every minute of it!!!
Note to self.........Must stop advertising this site on here...or there wont be room for us next year...LOL!!!!

Just came home from the I O W today. Stayed at Waverley Park East Cowes. Been going there for 15 years. JUST LOVE IT.Got all the best things about the island. The only problem is the toilets, they are filthy. Its a 4 rose sight and we dont know why!!!! Like all ladies we judge places by the loos, and these are foul. The first week of our hol it was 4 days before they were cleaned yuk!!!!!. When you have families staying it has to be clean. Has any one else stayed there? I could go on about it for ever but shall shut up now as dont want to send you all to sleep. Your comments would be good though. XXXX
