hi both, never been out that way . just have a look at the campsite search section of the site. i am sure someone will get back to you if you dont find anything on there. welcome to this wonderful site .. enjoy
Meathop Fell is a nice site, central for Cartmel and Grange Over Sands, we stay there when we go to Cartmel races. Tel 01539 532912 It's listed as a caravan club site, but I think they accept non members too, There's a pub/hotel 5mins walk very reasonable.and the office stocks essentials (bread milk etc.) you can order newspapers, and there's a fish & chip van calls on, on Fridays, (yummy!) the site is well laid out and has a small adventure playground, lotes of nice walks too.

Can recommend Meathop Fell. Used to stay there when we had a tin tent. Ask for a pitch with a view of the bay. They are very popular and book up quickly. The hotel mentioned is also a decent friendly place for a drink with good food. Anything else, such as shops you have to drive to though. Cartmel is very quaint but there is nothing there in the way of shops etc. It does have a couple of very good pubs with food but its not within walking distance of Meathop Fell. Cant recall any other sites in the area.
The few other sites local for cartmel are quite basic, for example, Greaves Farm, nice people, nicely kept, clean etc. but it is just a field with one loo/shower. If you've got kids they'd probably get very bored as it's a 'chill out zone' The only other place that's very lively is in Flookburgh, all singing all dancing. Stick to Meathop !

thanks for all this. What a friendly lot you all are. All sites in the area seem to be pretty booked up. Does anyone know anything about Penrith? We are actually on our way to Edinburgh and just want to spend a few days somewhere pretty on the way there, not far form the M6.
