After our first camping trip, we're well and truly hooked and want to go to the Lake District next.
We'd like to go to Windermere - does anyone know if any of the campsites are within walking distance of Windermere/Bowness? We fancy the idea of parking by the tent, and then being able to leave our car on site while we walk/boat around the lakes?
Limefitt looks to be the favourite, but I can't see how far out of Windermere it is? Can anyone help? We've two children aged 18 months and 5, so a playground would be good!
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
We stayed at a NT site right on the shore of windermere. It has been reviewed on here before. Look in the search area and type in Windermere. Can't recall the name just now but it was very nice. We were pitched 8 ft away from the water!

Think the NT site is on the opposite side of the lake from Windermere/Bowness - so it is not in walking distance.
The only sites really close to Windermere town & Bowness are Fallbarrow (no tents) and Braithwaite Fold (ditto, no tents). Limefitt does take tents but is a solid 1.5 to 2 miles plus out of Windermere on the Kirkstone Pass - mostly downhill to go into Windermere, but a big trek back from the town (especially if you have been shopping!!).
There are a few sites taking tents towards the south of the lake (ie south from Bowness). Do a search on this site and some will emerge.
