its a lovely site, can be very dusty where hard standing is,and i mean hard standing.its actually quarry stone and its like bell metal???
bent most of the rock pegs when trying to erect awning, will if i go again(which we will) ask for a pitch on the other side of the hard standings(grass)
------------- its nice to be nice,if you cant be nice, don't be nasty
I think they're all hardstanding arent they? Oooooh, thats right, there's a field in the middle, was being used for a rally when we were there last! Nice site, good facilities (clean, etc) but it is in an old quarry, so depending where you pitch, you might get a nice view of a quarry wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're quite right, behind them there walls is the peak district, in all its glory!!
Seriously, we've had some lovely weekends at Rivendale, its a good site and we are thinking of staying there in November for a weekend. Would defo ask for a grass pitch tho, having said that, if you are in a tent I would have thought you would get grass anyway, but who knows how these people's minds work???

Stayed at Rivendale, it a lovely quarry site but sadly was no good for us. We had a T T, it poured down and the rain does not wash away as it is just rock underneath. It was horrendous....... we saw people just pack up and leave in the night. One family left there tent and went to a B&B. I guess if you are in a van it wouldn't be so bad but no would not camp there again.
In fairness to the site the toilets were clean and we had a drink upstairs in the pub bit ......
If your in a van I am sure you will have a lovely time. Beautiful area..... and the walk along the top of the quarry face is wonderful .....
The one thing I did learn from visiting Rivendale is when booking a site will ask if the water can drain away when raining people must think I am mad.... but after being water logged and I mean water logged I always ask....
We went there on a rally in May and were told what a fabulous site it was. We were so disappointed - it was cold and the rain just fell down all weekend. Not the site's fault, obviously, but it really did spoil it for us. We left fairly early on the Sunday whereas normally we'd have stayed until about lunch-time but we couldn't wait to get away from the cold and wet - back to sunny North Wales
The owners were very good, though, and let us have our "get-together" on the Saturday evening in the restaurant otherwise it would have been a pretty wasted weekend.
Hope you enjoy it Naomi - we'd like to go again in better weather!
Never camped at rivendale, I live quite close so I suppose thats why! Make the most of your stay in the Peak District, I feel quite lucky to live in such a beautiful place. A visit to nearby Dovedale is a must, although it gets really busy at the weekends.
