can anyone recommend a nice site in the lakes near to a lake and shops pubs etc and maybe with a bar onsite

The Quiet Site and Cove Caravan and Camping Park, both at Ullswater are good too.

The Camping and Caravaning Club at Keswick - next door to the supermarket, the bottom end of town (lovely pubs in walking distance), right on the lakeside.

I think it might tick all your boxes

 the croft caravan and camping park in hawkshead right nxt to village with lovely shops and fab country pubs,  we are off there in 6 days
