Hi everyone! I'm thinking of going to Oakdene Park near ringwood in Hampshire. I've searched the site for recommendations and get good vibes. My first time camping for some 20 years - is this a good site for starters? I have two sprogs (2 & 4) and 2 OAPs (but very fit) in tow. Views very welcome as I hope to go this weekend. Thanks. Dawn C
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
We have been to oakdene last month ,great site clean tidy and well looked after, entertainment for kids great. If you are pitched in the meadows only problem is the lack of toilets and washing up areas. We have posted a review but it has not appeared yet,It is recommended by us as the best site for camping we have been to.
Hi andy54, thanks. you've convinced me. I'm on the phone to book tomorrow. I'll post when I get back how badly i've done. I'm bound to forget something - I plan to get all the essential equipment tomorrow (including tent!). It's going to be a very busy day. I'll need a holiday after that.
I've been, and personally i wouldn't go back peak season, but since the kids should be back at school you may find it better. Teenagers were a nightmare in the evenings.. We stayed on the main field, where all the loo facilities are. it was very busy and cars were driving by constantly. We really had to watch our 2 (6&4) being so close to the road. You may find you have a great time, but we certainly didn't come back feeling refreshed. Just not our sort of place. Bit too Haven for me, I prefer a quiter site. Having said that, the facilities were very clean, and staff are friendly. Men clean the ladies loos and showers though. You have to go to the pub restaurant across the road from it, the food is fantastic! I can recommend the steak and the lamb shank! Gorgeous! Best mash potato i've had in years!

Thanks, everyone for your views. interested to find out about peak season and field arrangement - I would prefer a little quieter as the sprogs are so little (2+4). As you will see I have not gone away this weekend. Couldn't coordinate getting all the equipment in one day. I have however, managed to get a Gelert Lokon Vario 6 for £180 and have single-handedly put up in garden - main tent in 1 hour. I thought it would be much more difficult and take alot longer.
I will certainly be going away very soon but am considering a smaller tent for me and the kids for a short break - to get them hooked. Bye for now
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
