Have you noticed that some campsites request that reviews are not published, we found out the hard way why,  The campsite is Ladys Mile in S Devon (featured site no less) and our visit was during the last seven days of August incorporating the bank holiday weekend.  We chose this site because of the advertised facilities and location, plus I am disabled.  It was awful, the site is huge and became seriously congested, we had to queue for showers and toilets, water was not always hot, it became very noisy, was dusty/dirty and choosing a pitch was a lottery (first come first choice), by the time we got there available pitches were very few and the choice limited.  The restaurant was inadequate and could not cope with the numbers, twice we went there only to find tables were not cleared, there was food on the floor and service was very slow; and if we wanted a drink in the bar in the evening - we should have took a picnic with us.  Staff seemed to be of the foreign student type but most were helpful; the toilet block cleaners however had no customer relation skills at all, one especially was quite rude to my wife and daughter for wanting to use the facilities as they were about to be cleaned.  This site has opened our eyes, we will no longer book a site that has no reviews, we will no longer book into a large site even if the facilities look good.  We will however be more careful in the future.  Martin.

P.S. We did not stay until the 31st but came home early!

Well thanks for naming and shaming on here mandc! Sorry to hear you did not have a good time, and I hope it has not put you off this kund of hol.

I must say that all our bookings this year have been guided by UKCS reviews and we have never had such a trouble-free season on camping hols. So I will avoid using anywhere that has no reviews or does not allow them.

And happy camping in the future!
