Try Bainbridge Ings camping and caravan site, nice site and a nice walk Hawes. Its on the main road from Leyburn just before you reach Hawes.

knight stainforth near settle is a superb site-very clean and well organised-reasonably priced-ehu pitches if you want one-lovely short walks to the river and waterfalls( and nearby old pub).
there are also stunning places nearby at malham ( cove-tarn- goredale scar and janets foss)
enjoy it-we did

North Yorkshire is a massive place, and the Dales are quite big too. It all depends which part you want to go to.
I prefer the southern dales and would go with hikamper and Knights, Stainforth, if there are a few of you. If you're on your own, try either the Riverside site or the Goredale site at Malham.------------- Summer%3F++What+summer%3F

Just back from the Dales on Thursday after a few days at http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1695 . This is just off A65 about 5 miles from Settle, very quiet and well priced, only £4.25 per night per person. Great for malham, 3 peaks, gaping gill etc

Helmsley is on the edge of Rye-DALE so I would say it's part of the dales, about a 15 minute drive to the edge of the moors, Malton and Pickering. The Dales does cover a rather large area.

It sounded simple enough, 24 miles, 1800m of ascent, complete in under 12 hours.
Forgot about the decent, thats what killed the Knees. Got round in 10hrs 25mins.
Oh the pain.......Enjoyed the beer in The Golden Lion in Settle though.
