Hi, we bought our first tent in Oct and would like to use it in the 2006 Summer holidays. We have 2 boys, aged 11 and 6, so we need somewhere which will offer them (and hopefully us) as many interesting things to do as possible. We've been looking at Devon and Cornwall (some of those sites are EXPENSIVE!!!), but I'd love to get recommendations of other places in the UK. Somewhere near a beach would be best unless there's loads of other stuff to do. We intend to have our first go at Easter, so any recommendations for campsites which may be suitable in the North(ish) of England would also be much appreciated.

some very good sites in Cornwall to visit, you are right though some of the sites are very expensive in the summer months, hence why we are going on the UKCS meet in cornwall in the summer, only £10 per pitch per night. Very good value.
Hi Kev,
Monkey Tree caravan and cmping site in Cornwall, 4 miles from Newquay, 4 miles from Perranporth. Loads of things to do, lots of beaches to choose from, site has pool and onsite entertainment, restaurant and bar if you just feel like chilling out one night. It is clean and well run. They have a website which will tell you all the prices. We went in a caravan, so dunno what the price for tent pitches are like. The site accepts dogs if you have them.
Also, if you like Bournemouth, we went and stayed in the Mount Pleasant caravan and camping park. It is by the local airport, but we thought it was more fun than ever standing on the near-by field watching the planes fly over your head to land! The kids get particularly excited!
We were thinking of coming up your way for Easter. I grew up in Newcastle and remember visiting the Sea houses, and Bambragh Castle. Or might stay nr Alnwick Castle.
a colleague of mine went to Hayle last yr which u could pitch up on the sand dunes obviously very close to the beach and it had a tiny pub it was called Atlantic Coast. She took her son (whos 13) and she said it was fab. Not loads to do but plenty to do nr by and safe for kids to run around and great fun - having sand dunes to hide in just wish we had gone lol they paid £16 per night and this was for 2 weeks in August inc bank holiday weekend. We went to polmanter which was in Hasseltown nr St Ives it was expensive - about £23 p/n but plenty for the kids to do and all amenities were great and clean
The best site we have used nr us was in Lincolnshire which was called Bainland this was a great site as us having dogs they can be a bit of a tie but they had a sheltered area where u could sit with the dogs and it was the hottest weekend all summer!!!!!! Not very nr Newcastle but im sure theres a nice one nr u. Good luck with your search and hope u find a nice site for you all to go to

Try Flower of May at Scarborough, good site, plenty for kids to do, 10min car ride to filey or scarborough, 40 mins to Flamingoland or Eden camp plus lots more to do in area. Good evening family entertainment onsite that is not commercialised like Haven sites etc plus an all adult bar aswell upstairs. This is on at weekends and all through school holidays
hi kev ,last year we went to crofton country park nr dawlish in devon ,i know its not in the north but a large number of campers were from the north and many came year after year,so can only guess that it must be worth the drive ,great for kids nice pool beach just up the road etc .we would also go back ,there is a couple of large fields that are used as over flow areas ,these made for good pitches for the tenters that had tents the size of marquees, just a thought heres the web site
Brighouse bay in Southern Scotland is fantastic site. Cleanest site I have ever visited, good clubhouse, swimming pool, golf course, fishing, play area near coast.
probably too far for easter but Pembrokeshire is lovely - same stunning scenery/beaches as Cornwall but much less commercialised, less traffic and much cleaner also there are lots of things to do and admission prices are much cheaper...
Hi, I agree about Brighouse Bay in Southern Scotland - a lovely site, well maintained and plenty to keep the kids happy (though not a butlinsy commercial type place).
didnt notice the tents bit in Brighouse Bay so cant comment on that but the site is as stated spot on and a lot easier to get to than Devon and get back from if the family dont like the outdoor life, which I doubt very much.
