Did you stay half board at butlins,or self cattering, we stopped half board at skegness and the food was absolutely awfull, would never go half board again there.
We always stay half board when we go to Butlins ( usually Bognor ). The food has been pretty variable. But it has always been edible. Going self catering worked out extremely expensive. The food at Butlins is very expensive unless you want to live in Burger King.

How can self-catering at Butlins cost more than half board? Just stock up at your local supermarket before you go and you don't have to spend any money on food when you get there. Although the Papa Johns pizzas are gorgeous and worth the extra cost.
Honestly the food is dire at butlins skegness , was there in september Ocean drive restaurant (ha ha dont make me laugh!) and it had went downhill from the previous year when it scraped in at tolerable. I even grumbled about it on here somewhere, think it was in the post about the new shoreline hotel.
Whats on the menu on paper looks quite appealing, but in reality, I was laughing when I saw a bloke sit down to eat his choice and he put it to one side after a few mouthfulls , ate his pudding instead,he went back and got 2 more ,that was all he had! the puddings were not too bad actually,(must be hard to spoil!) So I supppose its ok if you have a sweet tooth and are prepared to live on eves pudding jam rollypolly and spotted dick!
I remember your post from last year guy-rope. I'm suprised you went back for more!! I went in October but self-catering, I know you don't want to be cooking all the time on holiday but you can take convenience food or ready prepared home cooked meals to heat up. I thought the half-board "restaurants" looked more like school canteens, but I guess school dinners would have been better. The food at The Sun and Moon pub and the Pizza restaurant is excellent, but pricey as has been mentioned.
Oops sorry, back to the topic, Haven. Well you all have a choice, take it or leave it. They are not really my cup of tea either, but my 5 year old loves Bradley Bear and Rory the Tiger etc. so I go at least once a year to either Golden Sands, Mablethorpe or Thorpe Park, Cleethorpes, but book online last minute for a good deal. Usually end up paying less than any other site in the area. Oh yes, and I quite like the food in their bars also.

Sorry but I am not a Haven fan. Been more than once (my own stupidity!!) regretted it every time. Would rather sit at home sticking pins into my eyes than ever go again.!!
we have been to havens wild duck on a number of holidays and have to say we have never had any problems and take offence of the person who thinks all families who holiday on haven sites are neds whatever that is suppose to mean and i can definately say we do not weat tracksuits my 16 year old is mortally offended by this comment and would,nt be seen dead in a tracksuit (her words not mine) has this person been to every haven campsite in the country?

If you get a room rather than an apartment then there are no cooking facilities. So you have to buy the food there or eat salads. We have been when there were no apartments are available or they slap a charge on for taking up a 4 person apartment when there are only 2 of you. It cost us a fortune eating out every day and night. We have always found the food ok ( not brilliant but ok ). Taking out half board wasn't much more than self catering.
hi.we stopped at marten mere blackpool absolutly diabolical, small concrete slabs bunched tightly together hardly enough room to put up awning.we whent out for acouple of hours came back caravan opposite had had visitors thay left acar parked on my pitch aside of myawning and went out for the day.i could not get our camper on our pitch at all complained to haven office asked them to tow the car away. they refused and said i could take my awning down and move all my tackle on to another pitch. had to wait all day for these people to return and move there car.we will never go on a haven site again.only get stung once.

The clientele!
So, ones fellow campers weren't of the 'right sort' at Haven... Or did one just get a 'stiff neck' from looking down ones nose at the 'riff raff'...
Does one detect an element of 'snobbery' in ones thread!...
I think what the guy is saying is that the place is full of neds! i'm no a snob and i hate going to sites that are full of neds, if you haven't experienced them ...........lucky you!
Bryan
Bryan...
Well I'm sure 'Havens' holiday makers will be pleased to know that they're all 'Neds' and members of the 'Tracksuit & Trainer brigade'...
Still, I'm sure you'll take comfort in the fact, that you take your holidays, in sites populated only by, polite, intelligent, well dressed and cultured gentlefolk...
But of course, being from Glasgow, this time on a Friday night, you're probably too p**sed to read this and too busy beating up your wife anyway!... I think it's called 'stereotypes'...
How about actually READING my post, did i at any time say i had even been to a haven site?..................no!
Did i say that i frequented site that had perfect residents??.................no!
Did i call people who go to Haven sites neds?...........................No!
Did i say Haven residents are members of the tracksuit and trainer brigade? ........no!
Did i stereotype? ........................... no!!
Did i explain what someone else was maybe meaning??.......................yes!
Am i laughing at your escort xr3i?? and white stilletoes?....................Most definitely!
wild duck near gt yarmouth was disgusting when we went it was like packing in as many as they could. we could have held hands out of the van windows with next doors van Also saw the worst case of arguing between mother and child which ended in girl approx age ten running off only to be rubgy tackled and punched by said mother.I wish id had the guts to speak out but i was temporarily struck dumb! Toilets were always filthy but must admit that was down to the disgusting habits of the people using them> Never again even if they paid me

Hi HarleyJ, can't believe that happened to you. Its something I always worried about happening when taking van off site and leaving free-standing awning in place. Not really a lot the site could do about it though, just pig-ignorance on the part of the other camper and their visitors really.
BTW, welcome to UKCS, hope the rest of your camping has been good.
And steve, just read your post!!! what the hell r u on about?? " get a life"?? whats that supposed to mean? so now its wrong to dislike neds???? i dont like them in my home town and i dont like them anywhere? but ut no time did i say everyone on specific sites are neds !! for gods sake read what i said !!! trying to quantify what somewhone else was saying .
OK, sorry I'm a bit slow today, what is a ned? I must have led a sheltered life, never heard that one before. Is it an abbreviation like non-educated dullards or something?
