I think giving the maximum accepted footprint size of a tent is going to be the only way to go for campsites, in all fairness. Some older sites have smaller pitches fixed round their electrics setup, some commercial sites squeeze you in like sardines, some don`t care as long as you don`t take up 50% of the tent field. Just stating "Our pitches cannot accomodate tents larger than Xm x Ym " is clear to everyone, and would save large tent owners a lot of hassle.
Going by berth size is just ridiculous.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Two times I called to confirm, aside; I called this morning and spent about 15mins on the phone, most of which with the manager there. She wouldn't back down, and said that is the new policy, if anyone has been told otherwise, they have been misinformed.
As a result we have booked else where but really wanted to book on one of the Forrest Holiday sites in the New Forrest.
We're not interested in going to Thetford now anyway. We wanted a campsite on the banks of a river that we could launch the kayaks from, but you can't launch there on to the river Thet.
The site had to be Suffolk/Norfolk/East Cambridgeshire.
This is from the Terms and Conditions of Booking on Forest holidays website..
"The price of your pitch entitles you to locate: a) one car/motorcycle and one tent/caravan/trailer tent, or b) one motorhome within the boundaries of the Forest Holidays campsite for the period stated on your confirmation. Space for one attached single awning or one toilet tent is included in the pitch price.
A pitch is for a 6-person tent (Maximum). If your tent is for more than 6 people, two pitches may be required, at the Site Manager's discretion. In addition you can have one of the following on each pitch - child's tent, boat, trailer, single gazebo, double awning or extra car. There is an extra charge which must be paid at time of booking. During bank holidays and busy times, extras must be pre-booked, otherwise we cannot guarantee there will be space for these. A child's tent can only be used by up to two under 14's. The Site Manager reserves the right to ask you to remove any windbreaks.

That says it all really. My old 8 berth frame tent would probally only cover the footprint of some 6 berths nowadays so would probally BOK. If I was planning to use a large tent on any of these sites I would seriousley concider looking elsewhere. Its just not worth the risk of tipping up , pitching & then getting either another pitch fee or your marching orders. Vote with your feet folks. (or get a Dandy )

With a family you don't want to take that chance, so we voted with our feet. No Forest Holiday Sites for us. Too much of a grey area for a lot of people when it comes to limiting tents by berth.
I reckon they are on very dodgy ground and will cause themselves a lot of problems in the furture. One disgruntled customer means 10 more put off after they complain to others about their experience.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
