Hi can anyone reccomend a camp site in Dorset thats not to large and is near the sea if possible ive checked out a few from the campsite search but would prefer personal recomendations. We are taking a large frame tent and 2 children and dont want to be crammed in a site with no room to move.We are wanting to go during the school summer holidays hope you have some ideas thanks

As I have mentioned before else where there is a fantastic site in Langton Matravers called Acton Camping basicly a large field with a shower and toilet unit at the bottom, also with a freezer for your ice packs.
loads of space for kids to run around, they collect the money in the morning all very civilised, just outside Swanage they also have a van come around in the morning from the local shop supplying most that you will need for breakfast etc.
Most campers and caravans stay away from this site as the ground does not suit them plus no electric hook up, great site very cheap no frills loads of space. Just past Tom's Field camping along the same road
Maybe consider Burton Bradstock just east of Bridport, theres the all amenities Freshwater Beach site which the kids would probably love, or the slightly quiter Larkfield site near the village. BB is a quite village with a couple of very nice pubs for good food, theres plenty to do in the area as well.
If you fancy coming down to my patch in east dorset consider the Christchurch / Mudeford area, sites near the sea are few and far between but you could try sites like Holmsley in the New Forest which is a 10min drive to the sea, you will get a good size pitch at this site, and your kids will love the crabbing on Mudeford Quay. No end of places to visit from citys like the magnificent Southampton (biased as a Saints supporter), Bournemouth for its beaches, and historic places like Salisbury, Winchester and Christchurch. Happy hunting.

we stayed at east fleet touring park in weymouth last august and can thoroughly recommend it! Although its not exactly a small site we found the pitches well spaced out and the facilities were excellent and always clean. Its also a short drive from weymouths beaches which the kids thought were great!
we enjoyed it and we dislike commercial sites but even though it has a kids play area and a bar it was relatively quiet.
you can but its not the beach its the fleet which is very stoney and not good for kids paddling saying that the kids had a great time crabbing there.
Access is via a narrow lane but none of the caravans seemed to have any trouble!
my only word of warning is take plenty of change for car park charges as they are quite high and free parking is none existant in weymouth itself, saying that there is a bus service from the site into weymouth we didnt use it but plenty of others did.

Bagwell? Its terraced but each pitch is flat. Just outside Weymouth but a bus from the door and close to Safeway.Lots of reviews on here as we had a rally there. The loos etc on the main site are fine but there are none on the rally field. Our kids like the farm ride and we walked to the beach. Lots of local markets boot sales wetc. Pub at end of road.
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
Has anyone been to golden cap thats ment to be close to the beach isnt it let me know if you have been does it get really busy during high season thanks, i will find somewhere eventually i just dont want to travel 350 miles to end up on a over crowded site
Yep been to Golden Cap.............very nice site and very close to the beach. Also check out Charmouth, there are some lovely sites there and also right near the beach too.
We recommend Manor Farm at Charmouth....been staying there for years.
