I am looking for a campsite close to a railway station in the east or the south of England. (I hate being stuck in traffic on Friday evenings when going camping for the weekend.)

I have a 3 yr old, so a family friendly site near to the seaside would be great. It would also have to be within 3 hours travel from Bedford. Does such a site exist?

I don't know about journey times but the Camping & Caravan Club site listed as Moreton between Poole and Weymouth is beside a railway station.

I should think there are at least two dozen campsites within three or four miles of Gt. Yarmouth railway station and one right next door!... "Vauxhall Holiday Park" (not one of my favourites!) is beside Gt. Yarmouth station... If you look on 'site search' there are lots in Norfolk, within easy reach of a railway station. The C.& C.C. site in Norwich is a beautiful, surprisingly rural site only a mile from Norwich railway station. You can then travel by local train or bus, to lots of Broadland and Seaside towns and villages, in no time at all...

I think from Bedford you'd need to change at Leicester and then on to Norwich, Gt. Yarmouth etc... Though in Summer, there may well be a direct rail service into Norfolk from Bedford... I doubt that it would take much longer than 1 1/2 to 2 hours total travel time from Bedford...

Anyway, I hope you manage to find something that suits you (sir!)...

P.S. There's now a direct line from Cambridge to Norwich, that takes under an hour!...

HI

Vauxhall Holiday park at Great Yarmouth would be ideal for a three year old, their is plenty for children to do and they even have a creche where you could leave him if you wanted an hour or so on your own

have a look here, it is a ten minute walk from the station or quicker by taxi. It is also only a fifteen minute walk from site into great yarmouth itself and 25 mins to the beach

cheers

For the south of england what about

Buckle Caravan Park at Seaford.

Apprently it's next to the station, which is on a direct line to Brighton.

And I think (only think) you can get the Thameslink train from Bedford straight to Brighton.

reasonable reviews too

Try Ashurst Forestry Commision site in the New Forest, you won't get any closer!

Pitch to the right of the site!
