Hi there and welcome to the UKCS site - be warned it's addictive. Can't help about the site I'm afraid have you checked the campsite search to see if there's any reviews on there?
There are 11 reviews for Par Sands. Click on "Camp Site Search" at the top of this page. Then put "Par Sands" in the Search Criteria box and click on Enter. Then click on the "R" and you'll get to the reviews. Hope they are helpful to you - even better I hope they are reassuring!!!!!!!
We have been there. In fact my family started going there in 1955 - they stayed the beach huts then. Our kids are fourth generation there.
Now about the site -
Well situated to get to attractions, supermarkets, places of interest. Small swimming pool, tennis courts, bit of a games room.
Can be noisy if you are near the road that serves the harbour but we never found it a problem even when camping right beside it, and you can sometimes hear the clay plant at the harbour but it was never something that worried us. Footpaths to Par - care needed crossing the lorry road. Nice chippie (Vals), couple of local supermarkets with fair range of goodies and newsagents, but Asda and Tesco's in St Austell. Nice pubs in Par Village and in Tywardreath, behind Par.
Actually, we loved it so much there if we could get jobs there we would have moved to Par long ago, when the kids were little.
Sorry to say the beach is not the best. Can get very seaweedy and quite dirty at times because of the ships using the harbour, but we spent many a happy hour in the dinghy as the sea/beach is relatively flat. But do not dispair if the beach is not bril.
There are plenty of nice ones around. Go over the cliff walk to Polkerris beach (there's a pub on the beach) which the locals use. Can drive and park there if preferred.
If you go to Fowey, park in the St Catherines car park (not the first one at the top of the town, drive past that one to one further round towards the sea) you can go to Readymoney Cove - a beach we have used lots of times with our kids with toilets, ice cream van and safe bathing.
Huge indoor market on the road to St Austell. Charlestown has a bit of a beach and the sailing ships for a back drop (once again, lovely pub) worth a visit to see the sailing ships.
Any chance of squeezing another one in - I'm getting homesick for Par.
Yes, we've been there too, and totally agree with the above comments. As a campsite it is well run although slightly cramped for a big site. The toilet and shower blocks are good and never too far away.
Most important of all is the pub at the end of the beach which caters very well for campers with families with such things as live bands and various other kinds of entertainment, as well as a decent food menu.
We thought that the beach was very good and has a stream at one end where kids can try their hand at crabbing etc.
And what wonderfull villages and towns in the area (we fell in love with Fowey!).
