I was planning on booking our first camping trip to one of the northern uk have sites (reighton, blue dolphin, golden sands etc) but having read previous threads on the sites am a little unsure now! Anyone visited this year? are the facilities any good or as one person put it is it a raw deal for tents? Any comments welcome good or bad!
Alternatively does anybody have any alternatives we are from the bradford area so the closer the better as we are virgin campers and may need to run home screaming lol
thanks
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
a lot depends on what you want from a site? entertainment wise - would you be happy with a small bar and a kiddies play area or are you looking for all singing/dancing type of thing?
we also come from the bradford area, and have visited some lovely sites not more than half hour from home. have a look at the silsden/keighley area, there are a lot to choose from there. also howarth has a few to choose from, denholme has 1 i think, and sowerby bridge area have a couple too! cayton bay, nr. brid is a nice site if you wanna be near the sea.
We have stayed on most sites in that area over the years. Flower of May is a lovely site and very friendly but not as action packed as the haven sites, although it is my favorate. The blue dolphin site is Very large and from what I remember tents are on a slope. My favorate of the haven sites in that ares is Primrose Valley, whilst Cayton bay is alot nearer to Scarborough and the bus stops straight outside (as it does most of the sites in this area)Hope this is of some help.
Wife was thinking of going to Cayton Vaillage with her friend and 2 kids at beginning of August. OH likes sites as its quiet and she says she will feel "safe". Only concern is if the weather is bad then they will be stuck for something to do (no car for week). They were discussing booking onto one of the Haven sites instead for the entertainment but were concerns about noise/safety etc. Have stayed on Flower of May once with brother and found it a bit regimented.
Would anybosy recommend one of the 3 Haven sites in the area or should she stick to what she feels comfortable and safe with??

------------- It'll work out in the end!!!!
I didn't do it !! Nobody saw me do it !! You can't prove anything !!
Hi there Just spent a week on a site outside Pickering and I got talking to guy there who,s pal works at the Blue Dolphin site at filey and he told me that the stuff that gets nick from statics and tourers is unbeilvable. He said that they even been knowing to nick tourers. Security is non exsistant.
Just returned from five days at the blue dolphin with my monty 9 , other half and three kids aged 16, 11 and 3. We went tues through to saturday and had a great time. The weather was fantastic and the guy in the touring reception could not have been more helpful. He even gave me extra passes for the grandparents when they came to stay for a couple of days for no charge.
As for it the entertainment it was great for the kids but as with all these sites a pocketful of money doesn't go very far. The pool was lovely and warm both inside and out. There was no trouble when we were there and no thefts that I heard of. There are some parts of the site that maybe are not the best pitches but where we were was great. Close enough to the shower block (which was always clean) but far enough away not to be disturbed.
If we were going again it would be a mon to fri as it did start to get a lot busier over the weekend.
So all in all we had a great time, just make sure you get on the main field. We had pitch 242 which is also electric hookup and it cost me £32.50 for the five days.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
