fairly new to family camping.....would value some seasoned campers' recommendations.

looking for quiet (in August), generous pitches, family friendly site near sea - preferably in Norfolk/Suffolk/Dorset/Kent/Sussex

Looking forward to replies and thanks in advance

Hi

We are fairly new to family camping too and the best thing we have done is discover the camping and caravan club sites.  You don't have to be a member for most of their sites but you save about £5 a night and it costs £33 (?) a year.

The sites seem to be very well run, a few rules like no noise after 11pm and some say no ball games on main site (a real blessing if there are loads of strong kickers around!).  We stayed at the Normans Bay site (Sussex) recently - very nice, next to beach.

Yes, we were a bit  at first!  It isn't the same as the caravanning club though - you have to have a tin-tent or trailer for that, the C&CC is def for tents too.

It is probably worth doing it the way we did, we stayed as non-members and by the end of our stay we were converted and joined - we got back our non-members fee.  The rules and pristineness may put some off - we thought we were more into the wild-camping end!  We aren't into the sort of sites that lay on entertainment, which alot are, especially large, diverse-age-range families whose main holiday is camping.

One of the great bonuses you get for membership is the big site guide listing thousands of sites.

I shall be quiet now, I am sounding like an advert for the C&CC club.

We have been here and loved it.  Loveley site, great showers beach in walking distance, about 10 mins.  Nice and quiet at night so you and kids get a good nights sleep.

We can highly recommend Manor Farm, East Runton in Norfolk.  Basic site, toilets, etc very clean.  No clubhouse or entertainment, children's play areas, 10 minutes' walk if that to Cromer - lovely Victorian seaside resort.  Ten minutes' walk other direction to another beach.  Old-fashioned holiday altogether.  Going again this year.  They are on the Campsite search on UKCS, but I don't know how to do the link.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

We stayed at Peelhouse Farm near Hailsham, East Sussex last week with our children.  It was brilliant.  There is a small play area and doves that feed from the childrens hands.  It was lovely and peacefull too.  Only about 10 minutes from Eastbourne, Druisillas Zoo (had a great day there)

We went to East Sussex during the June half term and stayed three night at a campsite called Bay View Park at Pevensey Bay. Its 2 mins from a beach (stones) and the first night I thought the noise was traffic - then in the morning realised it was the sea! Its a small site with a small playground which kept our 6 and 4 year olds out of trouble. It's near Eastbourne and Hastings. Average wash blocks etc but the main thing was you could keep an eye on the kids and there is a fair amount to do in the area. Nice pub with outdoor play area and carvery (not to be scoffed at when youve got hungry kids who cant sit still for long) at The Star Inn at Normans Bay, a short drive.

Have Fun
