How many times have you gone to a c,l site to find there are more than five vans on???????
One we went to one recently had six tourers on and a camper, also some in another area that looked as though they were in storage and another which looked as though it was a long stayer, (evident by long grass growing around it,) though there was no one in it while we were there. The owners were nowhere to be found and there was a note on the door saying post money through box. I thought they were supposed to take yout cc number.
We were booked in and when we arrived there was one other van but after coming back from a day out the following day the other vans had turned up and the place was over full. There was also an area for tents and this had several in it too,, I don't have anything against tents by the way but I got this impression of a quiet little c.l. site with only five vans with who I would share the toilet and shower facilities with. This site has been featured in this months cc mag.
I've not been on many c.l.sites, this is the second one that has seemed to got away with putting more vans on, the other site we went to got round it by putting up a small fence halfway up the field and calling it a ralley field. The owner openly said he could get away with it this way, all fine and dandy for him but when there is only one loo between about 30 vans and umpteen tents it's no joke when you are only expecting five vans. There was a notice saying that everyone in the ralley field had to use thier own facilitiesbut that just didn't happen.
So BEWARE if you book a c.l. site and you think there will only be you and four others.

C.L site is a Caravan club site that only allows five caravans, it's short for certified locations, it's not owned by the club but it has been approved by them and is in thier hand book. Hope this helps
Its amazing how they get away with it, I thought the club would check these things out. We were thinking of using CL sites this year, now I am not so sure!
We are going to a caravan club CL site in 2 weeks to try it out, I hope it is not overrun with people, or if it is I hope it has enough toilet facilities to accomodate. It is one near Penrith, Newbiggin that is supposed to hold 5 vans?

if you find a cl abusing the 5 van rule get photos if poss and contact the caravan club and report them we had this prob at easter turned up at a cl and there were 14 vans on it also a cl is not allowed to take tents if no one reports them they will continue to do this the caravan club needs its members to inform them of these abusers of the cl system. dont let it put you off as we always use cl,s and most are great and are peaceful retreats with friendly helpful owners and yes the caravan and camping club cs are allowed 5 vans and as many tents as they want
They get removed from the Cc or c&cc if they break the rules. Also you do not need planning permission to open a 5 van site with one of the clubs for anymore than that you certainly do need planning. Its not fair on all the people who have to pay loads of money to apply for planning permission for bigger sites.

I have never used a CL, but always fancied the idea of a smaller site. However, now we've upgraded to our huge monster van, I wonder about access - does anyone know of a cl (we're with CC) within easy driving distance of Tunbridge Wells, Kent? We want to be able to go on a Friday evening and get somewhere quickly, so that we can enjoy 2 nights away. Kate
