Ghost walk? Sounds interesting. Is that something to do with the castle?
I don't think it has anything to do with the castle. As I remember, we got tickets from tourist information and the walks started from near the river. The guide was such a terrific story teller and walked us round the various spooky sites in the City, telling stories of the ghosts and ghoulies said to haunt them. My boys were enthralled.
------------- I'd rather be camping

They enjoy - Railway museum (free,) Jorvic centre and dungeons (you can use Tesco vouchers for cheaper admitance if you cash them in for deals vouchers), Castle Museum is a great day tho not cheap. Good walk round the walls if nice weather, Eden camp is worth the short drive tho i would give the boat trips a miss, they are quite expensive and do not go very far. I beleive the York Eye is good also but have not been since it opened. We also enjoy sitting on the banks with a picnic watching the boat crews but not sure if any around as the students will be on their long summer hols lol. Hope that helps a little............
railway museum , castle museum , york dungeon , cliffords tower, york eye, elvington air museum, flamingoland, eden camp, walks on the city walls or sightseeing open top bus, ghost walks, york minster , the shambles,Jorvik centre .....

Yorvic center, I found to be a waste of money but each to their own.
Castle museum is fab and when you've paid once you can go back as much as you like for the next year. And of course the railway museum. Both will take best part of a day if you look round them well.
Thanks for all the replies. We had a look at the York Pass site and picked up a lot of ideas, our 10 year old daughter is desperate to go on the Ghost Walk and we all like the look of Eden Camp. I think we could have a busy three days!

We've just got back from Rowntree Park with our 5 year old. We wanted to leave the car and walk so:
We did Cliffords Tower, Castle Museum, York Dungeon and shopping on Saturday.
Jorvik Centre (really good), more shopping and a River Cruise Sunday.
Did the Railway Museum last time, you can spend a whole day there.
Theres loads to do, and most of it is family orientated, some of it is a bit expensive but what the heck, if you are a member of the CC, their "Member Offers" has some vouchers for discounts.

If the York dungeon is on a par with the Edinburgh dungeon then it is a complete waste of money and completely over priced. My 10 year old son enjoyed it but my 9 year old daughter felt sick and we had to come out half way round - this after we had queued for an hour and a half. We had some half price tickets and more - it was still £17!! Complete rip off - just a load of wannabe actors and not much real stuff at all - jokes inappropriate for kids really - at one point I got soaked 'cos of where I was sitting. Shop full of occult junk - the whole thing was completely uneducational and just supposed entertainment. You have to experience it to wonder how they get away with it really - it relys on audience participation - I got put in the dock where they did a mock trial - good job I have a sense of humour!
Years ago we went to the London dungeon - no actors then - just lots of "instruments" with lots of educational material - not sensational.
After that ramble - when we went to York we stayed at Goosewood - lovely and went on park and ride into York where we went in the Castle museum, Cliffords Tower, Jorvic and wandered about. There is also the Minster, railway museum - ooh when we went in from the park and ride we were on a bendy bus which the kids thought great!

cycle along the cycle path to Selby and visit the Abbey.almost as impressive as the Minster if that sort of thing appeals.I know it aint everyones cup of tea but worth a visit i think. And if you do , drop in for one... a cup of tea that is.
You could always go on a hunt for Dick Turpins grave while walking the walls... but thats all it is - a grave ... my girls loved looking for it though - just to say they'd seen it!
Thomas's pub is a lovely place to eat with kids; especially meal deals where you can get two for £10.00. - located opposite Yorkshire museum gardens.
The best ghost walk starts at 'the Kings Arms' near to Lendall Bridge. Starts about 7.30)
Some fantastic views from the top of the Minster... A long trek up there but I felt it was worth it!
If you want a theme park, (we do 'em rarely) Flamingo Land isnt too far off and costs about £50 for a family ticket... allow dogs too, which is handy.
BTW if driving into York it can get a bit pricey... I'd recommend the Park-and-Ride but you are tide to times a bit then...
------------- I just can't get enough...Camping!!!
Well I think we have lots of ideas there, thanks folks.
The kids have looked up some of these on the internet and so far Eden Camp is a definite as is the Ghost Walk. I want to visit the York Castle museum and Castle Howard, so I think we will have plenty to keep us occupied while we are there.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
