We haven't stayed at Hooks House Farm(yet!) but were in the area today and checked it out. It really has got stunning views over Robin Hoods Bay (even on a damp and dismal day) . The site looked clean and well kept. Some pitches were on a bit of a slope but it certainly is one we intend to stay at in the near future.
we were going to stay at it last year but the warden wanted to vet us! The tents were packed in like sardines and he asked if were were along for the celtic folk festival, we didn't know there was a festival. The warden stated in no uncertain terms that he didn't want those type on his campsite. He aslo grilled us about our children, two 9 year olds and a 7 (at the time) and were they quiet as he didn't want to encourage noise, we were two mothers with our kids who like to go and chill and let the kids play out as we can't let them out on the streets at home, I appreciate that kids need to behave but they needed somwehre to play and let off steam. You may not have kids but we said no they can't be quiet all the time and went. We found a lovely site further down the road (halfway between whitby and scarborough called grouse hill. You can see views of Robinhoods bay and is a beautiful drive, again the site slopes a bit, but theres plenty of room, just don't get near the trees at the bottom. The mossies do come out later on. nice clean heated facilities with small shop.

You need to avoid Whitby from 18th August for a week or so as it's Whitby Folk Week and everywhere will be fully booked.
Whitby is something of an anachronism; it's the most delightful place except for school holidays and weekends, when it is inundated with "trippers". While many of them are probably very nice people, the overall effect is not good.
I spoke to the woman at Hook House Farm and she seemed very pleasant and helpful giving us information on the route to get there safely from Leeds and saying that as first time caravanners we had chosen the right place as they are more than willing to assist us with any teething troubles. Also the price seemed one of the best value for campsites around Whitby / Robin Hoods Bay. We had to cancel our booking due to bad weather but plan to go later in the year. Let us know how you got on there as we'd like to know from one newbie camper to another!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
