Certified site, by caravan club. Private owned and only allowed 5 caravans.

Don't know what C L means though !!

They have to meet a certain standard set out by the caravan club.

CL stands for Certified Location and if you join the Caravan Club you will get a directory containing several thousand of these little 5 van sites. I think the Caravan and Camping Club also has a similar scheme called  CS's certified sites.

Hiya Mike,

It's doable as long as you are well rested beforehand and the kids are so knackered they fall asleep right after they get into the car. Had a drive during the day from Builth Wells in Powys to Walton-on-Naze (just below Harwich) with two short weestops (that would be "wee weestops" in Scotland, yeah?).

Seeing that Norfolk is a bit further you do have to drive longer, so my advice is: take enough rest so you are fit to drive.

PS: bring enough chocolat on board for the wife to keep her gob busy doing something else than sending you off at the wrong exits because she has the map upside down. Judy (my wife) perfomed this stunning new challenge for our marriage vows during our last visit to the UK. Almost did the M25 twice as we already missed the M4 and where determined to exit at the M3, comming down anticlockwise from the A12.

Heck of a nice journey as you gradually see the landscape change. Wish you a good holiday and a save trip...

OK, Cheers folks! I'm definetely gonna join the caravan club, Also does anyone know if these CL sites are likely to be booked up months in advance? It says there are over 2500 CL sites in the Caravan Clubs list so surely there ought to be a few vacancies! Many thanks!

Some CL's are very popular because of location, facilities etc and they will be as difficult to book as sites, and can also be pricey, but there are still many many CL's that offer peace and quiet and basic facilities. You can ring up last minute or just turn up and you will get a pitch. CL's were my favourite sites when we had our old Compass Shadow.

Hi, you may find that no one will actually tell you much about their favourite CL, simply because the more people that find out about it the less chance you have off getting on it.... but there are such a range of CL's they are definately worth exploring
