Just wondering what everyone else finds as an acceptable tariff for camping. I know a lot of sites will put their prices up during July and August but how much is too much?
We are looking to go down to Cornwall sometime withen the next couple of months and the site we used to always stay at in Tintagel, used to be about £12.50 but now is £18.00 plus a premium(?) if you have a larger tent than 6 berth! I know that's not really expensive but it's annoyed me how much it has gone up. Further down the coast it can be anywhere in between £20-30. Is it just me that thinks it's all getting a bit too pricey?

unfortunatly its like anything else ,supply and demand ! Camping is becoming more popular so sites can charge what they like!
Have you thought about joining the Camping and Caravanning club ? that way you get access to CL sites ,lots of them cost only a couple of quid a night ,depend whether you are a back to basics type camper tho ,as a lot of them are basically a field with a tap and chemical disposal
Yeah we have thought about it on times and have come across a few nice sites that are only for 'club members. Also we have seen the ones like you mentioned and whether it's that, that's put us off or the whole 'club' thing I'm not really sure. We don't really want to go back to basics as it's took us a long time to build things up and we have a lot of stuff and money's worth that would just defeat the purpose of it I suppose. Saying that, we have occasionally gone away for a couple of nights in our small tent with limited stuff and no electric but if we're going for a long period then I want comfort. lol. May be worth checking into again though.
I can't believe how much campsites seem to have gone up by in the past year or so. I was flicking through a 2003 camping guide book earlier and, when checking with current website prices, some campsites have doubled in price in the past 3 years. Camping no longer seems a like cheap holiday, maybe it is because tents and equipment are sold so cheaply in places like Tesco etc?

We have maintained our prices from last year, even with significant developments on our park. There are sites out there with 'lower' prices, enjoy wherever you end up...
------------- If you can't beat em, join em, so we did! And then we sold it for a holiday let & Glamping pod instead 😁
Sometimes you work out thier tarrifs, example 2 adults,1 child, ehu for x nights, low ,med or high season. This amount in mind you phone to make a booking to be told a completely different price usually a lot more expensive. Why some sites are so expensive is beyond me sometimes when some facilities they provide are not up to the standard of that price. You can look down a list of tariffs and say oh thats not bad ,keep going down and they want aanother £1 for this and another £2 for that it can work out quite expensive especially for those who have a few children.Margie
We stayed at a lovely site at whitsun and it was only 6.75 a night I know in the high season its 14.50 without ehu, I think not much more anyway. Its called Boscrege in Ashton its not far from Helston. Its on the campsite search if that helps.

A lot of the CL sites have EHU now and they don't charge an arm and a leg. With over 2500 to choose from you're bound to find something you like.
I too am very surprised at the cost of some places, we used to think £18 a night for a site that had everything was the limit we would pay, but now we are struggling to find a site to pay that for a basic pitch without EHU.
I think we will take CL/CS route but our only requirements are an EHU adn CLEAN showers and toilet block.
The site we go to about 6 times a year costs us £10 in high season, including EHU. Mind you thats with basic amenities, toilet, shower and washing machine, and it is in the Scottish Highlands. I f I had to pay what you are paying down south I would book a B&B

JerryCat - where abouts in Tintagel do you go??
Andy
Hi Andy, it's called Bossiney Farm..not that it has anything to do with a farm..lol. It's not a big site, but nice and we've stayed there lots in the past and we have friends down the village so it's handy. It was taken over about 2 years ago, and we stayed once since the new owners but I know we didn't pay £18.00 a night!
morphe - Are you mad?!! lol £30 night - you have to be joking!
tiggersmum, that sounds brilliant for Scotland. Have thought about going there at some point. I must have the site details off you. :)

Arisaig, Silversands. basic but cheap. right on the beach. priceless
Well it sounds lovely and basic is fine, we don't go for the whole kaboosh, don't care if there's entertainment etc. I shall definately keep that in mind if and when we do decide to go up Scotland.
Thanks. ...oh and apologies for misspelling your name earlier.
We have 4 children and find that we need to go for sites where the pricing is an 'all-in' package. However, the same site might appear expensive for a couple with a small tent as the price automatically includes several children. On the other hand, sites may appear cheap for the basic price, but by the time you add on the extra children the price can more than double! It would appear cheap for a couple plus small tent, but would work out much more expensive for us!!
