Help, we have left it late as newbies to book for first week in August (although we were waiting for friends to confirm they were joining us) and now are disapointed to find all well known family sites in Newquay are full. We are on several cancellation lists but do not hold out much hope as I am told most bookings are from returners. My daughter is 5 and loves the endless facilities at Hendra, there are similar but these are also full. This is our first summer with a caravan and have learnt our lesson to book earlier !!
If anyone knows of any sites that are less well known or operate a system whereby the notify you if cancellations come up I would appreciate any info.

We are also new caravanners this year, and we had the same problem. I emailed several campsites only to get the same answer - full! We got a vacancy for two ehu pitches as my parents are joining us in their motorhome. We are going to Globe Vale Holiday Park, Radnor, Near Redruth. It has cost us £100 for 7 nights. It isnt a all-singing-and dancing park, I didnt want to spend megabucks having forked out for the caravan and all the equipment. They still might have vacancies.
Their telephone number is 01209 891183
Also mention that this park has been assessed and will be included in the caravan club book next year, so it can't be that bad
If it's any consolation we booked ours in March and several sites in Cornwall were full back then, you have to be really early on popular sites, Good Luck Rosie
You might have called them but we stayed here. It was a lovely little site. Very peaceful. If you do go there be sure to have a cream tea at the old schoolhouse a just along the lane towards Crantock.
It won't help you with your August holiday, but I would like to mention that if you want to go caravanning at any of the school holiday/bank holiday periods, then you often need to book months in advance, especially for the sites with more in the way of facilities & family entertainment.
For Easter, Spring Bank Holiday and the School Summer holidays, I would recommend making your bookings as soon after December as you possibly can. (Earlier if they take bookings before then).
We're off to the IOW in August. We booked it last August and we certainly weren't the first to do so!!
so much for the freedom of caravanning eh?
