Can anyone help us, we are driving to the Rowlsey area of the peak district, having put the location (post code) in RAC route finder it tells us to leave M1 onto A38 then leave A38 to take us all the way through Alfreton then onto A61 and A615, however looking at the map I can see that it would be much easier to come off the next exit on A38 (at little chef?) and turn right straight onto A61 then A615 (MATLOCK) which would miss out all of Alfreton.  Does anyone know this area and help us so we dont get lost???

Hi Richard, I think you can do both routes, I have done in the past and nothing much in it.  Matlock can be a bit congested though, but saying that so is a lot of the Peak District at holiday time so just gotta fight with the rest huh!

I live near Matlock and this time of year there can be long queues from Alfreton route and along the A6 especially at this time of year and on Friday mid-day to about 6pm.

The route suggested by Mike142sl looks a good one to me.
