I posted earlier in the Year asking about Par sands in Cornwall and thought I would let you all know how it went...
It's a mixed site really- very clean facilities with combination locks to keep out the riffraff an excellent local pub (The Ship) that is really child friendly and another pub about a mile away (foot path next to The Ship). that is excellent and right on the beach. The local beach is clean and sandy. facilties in the town are excellent: a well stocked "cost cutters", a nice Grocer/fishmongers and a pasty shop are the highlights. On the down side, the ground is very very stoney, think about taking specialist pegs (I used my dads 30 year old titanium pegs that he made, the alluminium ones that came withthe tent just bent to nothing...) and the pitches are a little on the small side, our tent is 5x4m so other people were a lttle close. The major downside of the site which would stop me going back for a couple of years is the Factory next foor to the site. It;s not a polluting factory and just exports china clay, it's just that it is always making a droneing noise and dominates the beach. Anywhwere else in britain you would put up with the factory, but in cornwall, with so much stunning scenery and hundereds of campsites you just don't have too. The factory jhas apparently been sold to developers and is going to make way for a marina complex. It will be interesting to see what this does to the area.
Really enjoyed cornwall though, fowey and Polperro are fantastic. Just gutted that Potters Museum of Curiosities at Jamaica inn is closed...
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
thanks for that .....useful to know about the factory ..have you posted on the campsite review section ...it takes a little while to the reviews to appear in the bust times ..but well worth doing as they stay as a permanent record .,and very useful for future reference ....
We are off to cornwall in november!! (not camping though ..wimping out and sharing a house at treyarnon bay ..wonderful at that time of year ..cliff walks cosy pubs ..beachcombing ...cant wait!
