(cant post on site listing) went middle august, special offer online 3 nights £57. the poorest holiday camp I have been to. Needed a re-vamp about 10 years ago. Caravan pitches jammed together at the top corner, got bogged in going to pitch after heavy rain.1 toilet block for all tourers, showers didnt work or were switched of at 10 pm. stage was a platform - no curtains/decoration. trouble with drains meant lounge bar smealt of old jobbies.when I booked in I thought the receptionist had let one go but it was the smell permeating. there is a sign saying mobile homes no matter how old accepted and I think this explained (gawd this sounds snobbish not meant to be) the clientelle.waited 25 minutes for an expensive fish n chips n regretted it.prime night entertainment was 2 girls for about an hour n chucking out about 11pm.pool looked ok but closed when we fancied a swim.nice location, nice local village.was planning to visit Beamish village from there but left early and camped nearer.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
thanks for the post was thinking of going there as its owned by park resorts now and they where supposed to have cleaned the site up it did have a bad name and we always kept clear will have to keep it up

Oh Huntsman - Im sorry you had a bad time at Sandy Bay - I am in no way going to defend the site as I think its rotten - it just such a shame you hadn't asked about sites in the area - there are some which are so much nicer and I know you would have had a better time in the North East.
Hope the site you found was nicer than horrible Sandy Bay!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
