I've got a problem. I've convinced a group of friends (15 of us, including 7 kids) to go camping next year. We meet up every year, normally in a big house somethere that can accomodate us all.
I starting camping this year and it's definately the best solution for all. So the advise I'm looking for is a great location that's going to keep the pessimists at bay if it rains (indoor pools, resturants, bars, etc...) and have loads of outdoor things for the kids (oldest will be 7), somewhere on the south coast.
Thanks.

Depends on the time of year....go to a big park slightly out of season and you'll have a lot more fun than during the crush of the summer months. Or look for a well recommended site with little entertainment, but with a pool nearby. Some of the smaller sites will welcome you more, as they have the flexiblity over pitch sizes that big, well defined parks don't.

We all love camping , We run our own car club and its great Kids allways have a great time so if there happy then so are we.I lot of places take family groups and as for bad weather all us females and Kids have funky wellies. We have a big double gazebo with sides so we all sit under there its used for cooking under, sun shade and from the rain too.
bit of advice when making your site bookings do not try to book to many people in one booking, if there is a large number of you make seperate bookings some sites are a bit wary of large groups. happy camping and welcome to ukcs, .royell.

I said the same thing to a couple of my mates - and after a weekend camping - we are no longer mates!!!!! She hated camping so much and made such a fuss and didnt "camp" in the way other campers appreciate - ie. she was noisy and kept turning up the music and screaming with laughter etc, that I finally lost it.
Thus - 5 years of niggles came flooding out - result, end of a 20 year old freindship !!
Mind you, think the camping was just the last straw.
You would have never got me in a tent! then we sold our statics, so from double glazing central heating washing machine and fride freezer, we went in a tent. the best thing we ever did i love it. The kids realy enjoy camping and i am sure after your holiday your friends will be hooked
Opps sorry forgot to but that in, we stayed at Rockly Park Haven can be a bit expensive but the kids loved it. If you can find stuff for the kids to do everyone is happy. Have a look at the campsite reviews and see if you can find anything suitable.

Sorry can't recommend anywhere on the South coast, but I have some advice which may be of help.
SItes with all the facilties bars, clubs, pools park etc are likely to be crammed full during peak season.
We have been to Broadway House, Cheddar & Mill Farm, Fiddington just outside Bridgewater, and whilst they offer all the facilities, the essential facilities (shower blocks & loos) can be lacking in cleanliness and hygiene.
Smaller sites may not offer all the facilities but I am sure when there is a group of you will make the necessary fun anyway. Just make sure you have a good family pub within a few minutes walk of the site.
I am quite new to C & C myself, and thought that by booking 4 and 5 star sites I would get clean facilities - doesn't work.
Next time I am going to go for smaller sites.
Check out Bucklegrove between Wells and Cheddar. We had a mooch around when we were in the area and it looked fab! We are defitinitley going to try it.
Carole - we were in a similar possition. We had use of Richard's parents van. First one I went to was a massive 44'x12'. Two loos, two showers, fitted kitchen etc etc. Then my FIL bought as slightly smaller brand new van. Sadly they both died shortly afterwards. I had to talk Richard around to trying a tent. There was no way that we could afford a static. He kept on saying that he'e miss the home comforts etc. Well he tried it and loves it. Got to admit that the only thing I do miss about the static is not having to take everything when you go. We used to just throw some clothes and a couple of pints of milk in the car and go. Only thing ma in law ever asked was to mention if we'd used the last tin of something so that she could replace it.
Really enjoyed Twitchen Park Wollocombe N Devon. Without EHU you can pitch anywhere and in groups. Had indoor and outdoor pool and good entertainment for young children (ours ranged from 3-9). Beach nearby excellent, we drove but apparently its not a long walk. Parking was £4 or £5 though for the beach.
Its a group of 4 sites near each other and you can use all 4. They are on the Camp site search.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
