Please dont recommend RUDA, i am looking for a site with EHU/Excepts large tents/Level pitches and the most important clean modern loos and showers. Prefer site without club or pub.

Play area for grandkids is also important.

Any suggestions

Warcombe farm would fit bill although it is a drive to Croyde - 15-20 mins - but if you want surfing then Woolacombe beach is 5 mins from Warcombe and huge with good parking and plenty of toilets ( my pet gripe about Croyde - only a handful of loos and in the busy season there were queues of 30+ people waiting for 3 loos when 2 were out of order!)

Warcombe farm is wonderful - no club but a large play area for kids and the site is well landscaped with several different areas separated by hedges etc.  There are many individual pitches in their own 'bays' I suppose you could call them - surrounded by hedging on 3 sides - some are huge and I would think you could fit a pretty massive tent on them.  The loo/shower block is recently built and impressive - spotless and classy inside but not an eyesore from outside.  Owners are friendly and campers usually on the quieter side too!

Not sure if it was sorted, and i am sure it would have been, but something for you to check if you got young kids. We stayed at croyde Bay a few years ago, before the seperate caravan site on the left was bought out by Ruda.

My youngest went paddling in the sea quite a lot. We noticed a brownish film on the water but presumed it was sand as the swell was quite fierce. Imagine my suprise when a couple of months later we saw a news report that all the surfers were complaining at the quality of the water. Turns out there was a raw sewage pipe going into the sea just up the coast.

As i said am sure by now it will have been sorted but stopped me going back again even tho we loved the area.

That was all sorted out a few years ago now.The perssure group Surfers Against Sewage took out a High Court Action forcing the local water authority to shut the outfall until a proper treatment plant was built.

The quality of the water has improved steadily.

I would also recommend Lobb Fields at Braunton which is about ten minutes down the road from Croyde.  Can't remember if there is a play area but there is plenty of space for games.  We had a great time there last summer - would have gone back this year but left it too late and they were fully booked :(.

Shower block is a bit old but it was fine (and I have three fussy girls who were quite happy with it!).  We also have a big tent and this was fine - the pitches are very big.
