Danny, hi just read about this on a Landrover web site that mentioned the L-R Rally in July being moved somewhere else it just stated that (or the guy stated) that he had heard that Billing had been bought by Centre Parks, it was not a definative statement of fact, regards S/C
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
It probably is'nt all that reliable, but having motored by Billing recently, I made every effort to see if the long awaited upgrading had been commenced.
From the A45, it is possible to see the supermarket, shops, amusement park, defunct swimming pool etc. The excitement was short lived and before me I see see the same old drab buildings with no signs of the ten million pounds investment promised two years ago.
I wonder ?, if they haven't made any effort to upgrade for the benefit of the PUNTERS/ USERS, and everything is how they left it last year, will they leave the ground rent etc at last years prices. No it aint April 1st, but feb 1st.

The prices have gone up but we are reminded that they are the first rises for some years and the toilets and showers are to be upgraded this year, so we are led to believe.
Oh NO, that is not true. Ground rents have increased year after year for many years. All you have to do is ask anyone that owns a van there and they will willingly prove to you that each and every year ground rents have increased.
Fraz, how can you see the toilets etc from your location in Scotland (te he ! lol)

You're probably right, danny31, its just they try to lead you to believe that they havent increased the prices hoping that you may forget how much it cost last year! I go to Billing every year for the VBOA Rally and come to think of it, it does seem more expensive every year. Also they charge for electric seperately, I read somewhere that this is illegal because they are paying for the electric from Powergen, for instance, and then selling it on, no doubt for a tidy profit. I thought that the electric price had to be included in the pitch price.
I can assure you it aint. Electricity is by cards, minimum £5 which have to be inserted in a meter by each van. Gas is obtained via their shop and no-one else. Water and TV licence is free, but it was being said water meters were being considered.
Ofgem bought in a ruling that stated you cannt charge say £1 or £2 per night for electric on a touring pitch, as this would be classed as making a profit on the electricity without knowning what the consumer had used. If the pitches have meters you can then be charged at the end of your visit for the units used. However, the only other way to make a charge without stating it was a charge was for parks to state that a pitch included free electric hookup facilitiy. Basically electric. But many parks especially CL's & CS's still charge for electricity seperately and no-one seems that bothered.

When were the card meters installed then? because when I went last year there were no card meters by each van, you just paid per night at the gate (£3 last year £4 this year so they are definately breaking the law!)

Maybe we are at cross purposes. I was quoting meters at static vans. I have no information about touring charges. What I do know though is that in the last 12/18 months, many of the sites where tourers pitched, they have now put in concrete bases for even more statics.

Yeah I was talking about touring pitches. Trouble is they are not the only ones that are breaking the rules so why is no one doing anything about it? Obviously ofgen don't really care!
