We have three dogs, so we need somewhere that is definitely dog-friendly. The only problem is that, although they are all great with people and other dogs, they don't get on with sheep and cows in the same way. So we are looking for somewhere that is not on a working farm.
We would like to try South/South West or maybe Wales - and preferably with electric hookups, shower/toilet blocks and a shop on site.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Stuart

Have you thought about the three Forestry Commission sites in the Forest of Dean, I think their Christchurch site allows dogs now too, they`ve got toilets showers and a shop on site, Bracelands is a bit further down the road, they have showers but it`s a bit of an uphill walk to the shop. We stay at Woodlands which is perfect for us but no showers or toilets. They`re all fantastic sites for dogs, they allow three dogs per unit too
We too are also new members & have 3 dogs (rescue lurchers) & have returned last year, to touring with a MH now( after 25 years with a caravan & 5 years break) and now are finding sites we never knew existed which will take 2 or more dogs. We have always toured with 2 dogs and used to find it very difficult to find sites which takes 1 or more dogs. Now it is just me, OH & hounds requirements change (ie no whistles & bells sites - just good showers, walks & a good pub). Am also careful/mindful of where we go as do not want to be fretting about walking dogs where livestock could be worried ie farm sites.
Beach locations are usually good and Brean is a great beach for dogs - miles & miles of free running. We also spent a great weekend at Tudor Campsite at Slimbirdge with miles of canal side towpath to walk along.
Looking forward to getting away soon in the mobile kennel & seeing some more of glorious countryside. Good luck with search & let us know where you find.
Welcome to you too ciderbelly. Have you been to Bo-Peep Farm near Banbury? It`s the most fabulous site for dogs and despite its name I`ve never seen any sheep! I think they allow 3 dogs. You`ll find it in the campsite search, they`ve got 4 miles of beautifully mown paths around their farm land, it`s absolutely perfect for dogs. Don`t know about a pub though as we never visit them, have a look at their website anyway,
Sue
P.S. We normally use adult only site but we make an exception for Bo Peep, the children there have always been very well behaved, we even went on a bank holiday, the site was full but hardly any dogs being walked it really is bliss.

Birchwood is right next door to Wareham Forest which has great reviews on here. I've been numerous times , Been to Birchwood once, it was a good site but in my opinion Wareham is better, then again that's just my opinion
Liz - We do like the look of your site but we have three dogs and it does say on the site that you only accept 2 dogs per unit. We are responsible owners and would always walk them on leads within the site and pick up after them. Unfortunately, all of our dogs have slight infirmities and they can't manage long dog walks anymore so your enclosed dog area would be ideal for us.
If we could bring them, we would probably try a 3-centre trip - spending 3-4 nights somewhere in Devon or Somerset, then a week with you and 3-4 nights Dorset or Hampshire on the way back.
The best dog friendly site we use for our two spaniels is the Caravan Club site at Pembrey Country Park. The bottom corner of the site is gated direct into the forest. The forest area is huge and you can walk well clear of traffic and livestock. The forest leads onto Cefn Sidan beach that you can use except for any area marked off during May to September. The pitches are on grass or on hardstandings and they have a long season.
We have a big bouncy German Shepherd who holidays with us.
Her favourite site is Wareham Forest, Nr Wareham. Dog friendly and has direct forest access (ask for a pitch that backs onto the forest tracks) or camp in the forest! endless miles of lead free sniffs and roaming in the forest with marked walks. (obviously on a lead on park)...but its fab and the park facilities are ace too.
another one is Old Oaks, Glastonbury...adults only...but has footpaths from the site it does have an enclosed dog walking area (but not sure big enough to tire out three dogs!!?) - but ample for a quick walk and a wee! Its very dog friendly - even with a dog shower at the top of the dog walk.
another adults only is Binghams farm Bridport - lovely site and loads and loads of dog walking on site and from site. very pet friendly.
you could also try the forestry comission sites as someone else said - not only in the forest of dean (which looks lovely) or the new forest sites.
We put a max of two dogs per unit to give us a 'get out' ( being really honest here ) as we have had a few that have taken liberties in the past!. 3 will not be a problem and will be FREE. Our enclosed dog exercise area is really for the moring and nightly toilet and thus isn't huge but they are welcome to wander about in there off lead it's fenced. We also have a number of dog friendly beaches all within 5-10miles depending on the size of the beach you require.
Fell free to call or email - we are just sorting things out for the new season, new reception/saun/dog boarding and toilet block so forgive us if we are little vague if you have 'special requests!'
Liz
------------- If you can't beat em, join em, so we did! And then we sold it for a holiday let & Glamping pod instead 😁

Thanks again to everyone for your very useful ideas. We will certainly try a few of them out - its always gives you more confidence if other people have tried and tested a place before you and are willing to recommend it.
Liz - Your place does sound very suitable. Once we have sorted out more definite dates (probably in -3 weeks time) we'll give you a call and organise things properly.
Best wishes and I hope you all have a great season in 2007!!
