Have you tried Leisure Lakes at Merebrow between Preston and Southport. We haven't been here for a couple of years but from what I can remember we had a good weekend away here . I've known people to stay for a week or so and found things to do, theres paintballing and a boating lake and a Saloon (yes a real cowboy saloon with real cowboys and they take it very seriously) great fun.
Your requirements sound much like ours. We have 3 kids aged 14,12 & 2 and we have booked to go to 'Dolbryn' Campsite in Carmarthenshire again this Easter as we had such a fab time there last year. A small family run site with excellent washing facilities (but very rustic) a basic bar with a big open fire (and cheap alcohol!) with an adjoining room for the kids. A great play area for the kids, a lake and a vineyard and trees that the kids can play in. Someone made a den in the trees which I believe is still there and the family encourage kids to do this sort of thing. They lay on activities over Easter weekend such as egg rolling, egg throwing, egg painting competitions and treasure hunts and the whole family is expected to join in - it's great fun, not at all your 'Haven' type entertainment though....it's really all down to good old fashioned family fun.
The pitches are large all with EHU and you have a choice of 2 fields, Pines which is by the play area and Lakes which is.... by the lake lol. They have goats, hens, ducks etc which the kids can feed, oh and rabbits.
It's a bit further than you want to travel, but it'd be worth the extra in my opinion.
CaddyClan, If you are posting details of a site, please ensure you link to their UKCampsite.co.uk listing, not direct to their website, to enable reviews etc to be read!
Sorry Loopy, actually I did but I went round it the wrong way - I went to their homepage and clicked on 'independant reviews' which I know jumps to the reviews on here but hadn't noticed that the link address remained theirs. Sorry again!
