Has anyone been to this site?  We are told that it's a narrow steep entry to the site and wonder just how awkward it is.

Is it a good area for dog walking?

Thanks

Elaine

We stayed there in 1997. It was a bit of a hill to go down to get on site, but nothing unusual. We had an Abbey Dorset 2 berth towed by a Vectra.

The area itself is great for walking, particularly along the Roman Wall , just to the north. Much quieter than , eg  the Lake District, so I am sure  it will be well suited to dog walking.

The access road to the site is narrow, steep and with a bend in it but it can be managed with care.  Nice site but it can get waterlogged easily if there is any prolonged rain.  A great area if you're interested in the Roman history of Britain.

hi,

i live only a few miles from the site, although i`ve not stayed there,i was walking down the road in questiis on,yes its bendy but there is wider parts in the road for passing, however its only a short distance.

i am going to try it out myself this year,if i visit the site before you,i`ll leave my personal opinion.

ps.the road itself is a quite road, only used by a few tourists, caravanners & the farmer next to the entrance.

enjoy :)

please lmk if you still have concerns about the road, because i`m willing to mail you with photos of the road down to the site with my discovery on the road,so you`ll get an idea of the road width,i`ll be up there this weekend.

We visited this site last September. The entrance is a little tight, however we managed OK with our T/A.

A few of the pitches were rather water logged when we arrived, however we were able to change onto a hardstanding pitch the next morning.

The HSMs' who I believe are there again this year, were great, they were extremely pleasant and helpful people.

The facilites although a little dated, were spotless. Good dog walk as well.

Hopefully, we will return to this site in the autumn, to watch the lovely red squirrels!!
