Hi

Has anyone tried the Optimus Aluminium Multi-fuel stove wind foil?

I want a reusable windshield that will work with my Esbit folding solid fuel stove and will fit within the mess tin set that holds our backpacking/overnight camping cooking set. Currently the stove, fuel, matches, 3 sporks and teabags all fit within an army issue 3 piece mess-tin set - nice and compact. Our current folding windshield is not easily packed with the stove so wondered whether AND HOW this would work as an alternative to just foil.

That looks like the thermal insulation rolls we used to insulate our loft. I had wondered whether that would work, but was nervous that it would be flammable. I might need to try burning a little bit as I think we have some of it left. You never know I may not need to buy anything.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Unfortunately, tried the foil thermal insulation roll and you can set light to it, so I think I'll avoid going down that route and possibly have another look at the original product in this thread.

I thought I'd report back. I found this on ebay. Almost made to measure for the Esbit stove and our 3 French mess tin set (actually fits within the mess tins as well as providing 3 sides of full-height protection when set-up):

Thanks for the link!

Its not so much for backpacking - but rather for picnics and overnight camps using the car/soft-top landy whilst touring - so space saving rather than weight saving is our criteria.

I have seen the site you suggest. Its a good design, but we use French mess tins so the flatter more rectangular package is preferable. The size of each section is also custom made for the mess tins - 3 panels + 2 + 3 are an ideal fit.
