Hello there 'follow'
I'm not sure if this is the most suitable site for you.
Those of us who have/still backpack are most likely to have only experience of the UK.
My wife and I were in Burma and Thailand in March, but used local gear for sleeping in. The locals assisted us with their specific knowledge.
We're off to the Philippines in February, and again will use assistance from the locals.
Using local gear is best.
You don't state your age or experience, or time of year, length of trip etc, so 'type specific' replies will more than likely be less than you desire.
Myself?
I started tenting on my own in the mid 1960's, and have done Scouting and military service.
You fly or sail to China first?
Kind regards James
-------------
In the beginning there was darkness.
Then I bought a tent.
I'm not destitute, I'm just poor.
