However, I believe you are nuts as it has been so wet and miserable!

And the best of luck to you Spiritburner! I admire your fortitude and durability, seriously, hats off to you.
Having done a fair bit of hillwalking over the years (returning daily to a nice comfy base, NOT rough camping! - Hot showers, decent food, dry bed and dry clothes to be had, even when in a tent!), present weather conditions just about everywhere look pretty unfriendly to me, every good reason to wait until a month of two for hopefully better weather!
I find trudging through endless sodden bog and perpetual rain pretty exhausting, 'progress' is minimal and frustrating, and as to the NEVER being properly dry if outdoors (or even 'indoors' if rough camping!)! I've been with groups who sport the very best outdoor clothing money can buy, but that has been 'compromised', and accommodation drying rooms somewhat overwhelmed!
Even in the comfort of a well equipped, home from home caravan, and at low levels well off any fells, the current abysmal weather gets a bit much. I was away last Nov in the Lake District, and if nothing else, at least walking the dog a couple of times a day meant lots of thorough soakings, the rain was Biblical, sometimes a bit icy, and barely relented at all - it did flood the region and stopped most of the boating activity I'd gone to see! - pretty extreme when rain stops boating activity!!!!! TBH, not a lot of joy to be had!
I've got a legitimate excuse for not wishing to match your extreme treks, I'm an old git, who enjoys his home comforts too much these days - yes, I've gone soft!
