I've tried to find photographs that will show the distance to the lake.
On this one the path to the lake is just to the left of the Outwell tent you can see and the lake is just literally over the hedge.
This one is from a couple of years ago and zoomed from our pitch, but shows the back of a tent, the hedge and the kids all stood on the hill up to the lake on the other side. There is a hedge that separates the lake from the nearest pitches with it being probably a minute's walk over the bridge! Hope this helps!!

There is a row of pitches, including AWPs, on the other side of the hedge opposite the lake.
I was on one of the AWPs last year, a few pitches away from the path leading to the track between the lake and the camp site. One can see the lifebuoy and the rack for the kayaks in the right hand background of this pic taken last year (TracyD, hope you don't mind me posting my pic in your thread):
