I was hoping the webmaster wouldn't mind taking a moment just to clarify the type of thing that would be deemed non-constructive criticism in a review. I didn't see the one that was taken off earlier, so I don't know what was in it, but I'd be interested to know what constitutes an inappropriate review.
One of the things I prize most about this website is the honest reviews, so I'm a little concerned that what was presumably a bad review can be taken off because the owner didn't like it.
This isn't a criticism by any means; I just wanted to know the 'due process' if you like, so that any future reviews of mine are written in a manner fit for publication!
at the end of the day a review is only a persons opinion and everyone's opinion is different. i wrote a review for a site a few weeks back and it has not arrived on this site at all. the reviews that were already there were not brilliant however the majority of reviews were written by people staying in tents. as ours is a motorhome the site was not suitable for us and also not very accomodating. i did end the review by saying what a lovely site it would be with some tlc. there was no malice, rudeness or anything untoward in the review however it has not appeared. i think reviews should be put on whether good or bad.....as i say what is good for people in tents is not necessarily good for motorhomers or caravanners....so all reviews have to be considered
That's a pity Hannah, the last review I posted was pretty poor, but honest, however someone else who stayed at the same site and same time thought it was great. My review appeared the same day as I posted.
Hannah it can take a while for a review to be put on due to the amount of reviews they get. I've had a few reviews that have taken months rather than weeks to be put on. So please be patient, Webby and Ratty have jobs as well as this site so are really busy. And they are great people, look what they brought us , this site.
Well, fortunately I haven't yet encountered a bad campsite or a rude owner, thanks almost entirely to making my choice of campsite based on the brilliant reviews on this site! But I will pledge to always be honest regardless
thanks for that i will keep my fingers crossed and hope it appears.....i also think reviews can vary from person to person depending on the types of sites you have stayed at before.....we have stayed at many in our time and generally are very happy....but they do differ.....it can also work differently for motorhomers and caravaners as we don't necessarily need facilities in the same way as tenters do.....if a shower is horrible on a site i can use my own, tenters don't have this option.....we take our motorhome with full tanks and can last a week without filling or emptying so how far a tap is away from us isn't an issue but for tenters traipsing miles backwards and forwards is.....on the other hand if it pours with rain for a few days we may be very dry warm and cosy but probably stuck there until someone rescues us!!!!!.....tenters just pack up and go......i read all reviews of sites before i go for them and draw my conclusions from all of them taking into account the facilities i would want and/or need......just because someone says it was awful in their opinion doesn't necessarily mean it is for others
All reviews are considered for publication - reviews are evaluated on a large number of criteria, and of course we maintain complete editorial control over all content on the site.
We publish comments and reviews which we feel in our view add value to a visitor choosing a site, offering useful information over a campsite's brochure, and the existing reviews.
Also guidelines are here:
Don't use 'TEXT speak' - this isn't a mobile! Use capital letters to start sentences and proper punctuation please. This saves us hours correcting reviews.
Write a full review - cover the site's facilities in full, the toilet block / playground - did it have hookups etc etc
Tell us about the surrounding area ( eg shops / beaches / bars / attractions etc etc) and provide info to help other visitors
Be objective - we won't publish personal gripes
Give constructive criticism where necessary.
Add details not already covered in the existing reviews or website
Be patient, we may have a big backlog at busy times
Thanks Loopy! So constructive criticism might take the form of 'the showers weren't cleaned' which is a simple thing the campsite can change. But if the owner is genuinely rude to you, would you be able to say that in your review, or does that come under the heading of 'personal gripe'?
The review removed earlier was not removed because it slated the owner. I think I put that in my post. He (surprisingly) did not deny swearing at the reviewer. It was removed because it contained factual inaccuracies, and such things when published lay us open to legal repercussions. Obviously we're not going to put ourselves in that position.
When posting a review, keep it honest, factual, objective, and you should be fine
Also post reviews for all the sites you have visited, not just one for the one site you happen to dislike, and want to sl*g off.
Hannah above is a case in point. She joined up, then immediately posted a review sl*gging off a site.
We emailed her, and asked her to submit other reviews for other sites, so we can consider them in context. So far she hasnt bothered , or even answered, so its highly unlikely we will publish her review.
