Sorry to say this Sean and I am sure you are a nice guy to meet but sometimes your own answers on here can appear to be very abrupt and opinionated. I wouldnt have said anything but you brought the subject up. Its like someone said when you are not face to face its difficult to judge how people react and what people type on the forum can come out different than how they would say it. I too think it seems rude to say do a search when people, often newcomers, ask a question.
Why is this in the caravan section?
Only joking........ I've noticed a few nasty replies and bun fights lately. Luckily it all seems to have got back to normal now.

I think one of the problems is that when you reply to a post the OP can't see your face and somethings sound quite curt when in actual fact they are not meant that way. It's the same when sending emails.
Jan
I think thats a great deal of the problem Jan, which if you look at it in that sense and add a smiley.. means it's not a problem at all?
In truth and IMO, this site is either heavily moderated or extremely polite?
As far as blocking those you don't want to read, I've never found the need albeit there is one, (not on here), that always rubs me up the wrong way and to be honest I ought to block! but I'm still not sure if he's genuinely stupid or not?!!
I think the really unpleasant ones eventually drift away, providing you don't feed their "pleasure". One cause of an apparent curtness can be an innocent attempt to keep a post brief.

There are loads of nice people on here, myself i just ignore the nasty ones , i've got better things to do than start replying to them .
I do keep a ignore list on my PC for the rude nasty posters , so far i only have 3 names , i joined approx 5 years ago , so 3 really isn't that bad. There are sites a lot worse than this one.

Well said Wizard, with so many members we are bound to get a few bad eggs!
though to be fair a lot of people try to keep their posts brief and may come over as
curt.
I reserve the right to be wrong! I usually am.

Hope I haven't upset anyone I would be upset if I had! Maybe people have camping fever. Now spring is in the air and a bit of nice weather, everyone is relieving their camping frustrations so to speak!!!! (I'm just about delirious as am hoping to get away next week lol)

Considering the makeup of the site from Motor-homes, to Bivi tents overall we do very well. Yes there are a few but as already said they will leave. If they do post then someone or several will be along to give the other side. This months Camping and Caravanning Magazine recommends this site for new tenters so well done the moderator's for a job well done.
As one of the moderators, and a veteran of this site, (been around for so long I forget! ) I can honestly say that we did have a spate of larger reported posts in the beginning of this year but this has now gone back done to its usual very low standard, usually from other vintage posters who notice a topic in the wrong place.
If there is a topic that is felt to be out of order then we tend to get a fair amount of reports on that and it is acted upon immediately when possible.
My guidelines from the start have always been if I would say it in front of the youngest of children then you can say it on ukcampsite.co.uk, remembering that this is a family site and that a lot of the posters do tell their younger family members about posts, especially after a meet. We do also have some pre teen and teenagers who post on the forums as this is and always has and will be a family site.
When possible I always try to act on a reported post immediately, as do the rest of the team. Remarkably there are actually very few reported posts, these come in various areas, some of which are: 1 - Post in wrong area 2 - Duplicate posting 3 - Someone trying to reach the admin team for other reasons 4 - Original poster requesting removal/locking of topic 5 - Link that makes the pages go funny 6 - Offensive links and pictures 7 - Offensive or derogatory post 8 - Topic that requires keeping an eye on
I am happy to say that it is still very rare for us to receive report posts which I take to mean that this site is still the friendliest and politest on the internet, a record we all as members are proud of.
Please remember that if you have a problem with a post. or require our attention then the report post button is always available and no matter what you need it for we treat each one that is received.
Sorry to say this Sean and I am sure you are a nice guy to meet but sometimes your own answers on here can appear to be very abrupt and opinionated. I wouldnt have said anything but you brought the subject up.
I dont mean any offense.
Regards
Jim
None taken Jim - seriously. This is probably a result of my own frustrations and being brought into an argument. Believe it or not, the reason I posted this is I have found myself being a bit retalitaory of late and never was in the past..
I don't like to think Ive ever being downright nasty - and yes, I am a nice guy, the sort of guy who will get out of my van in the pouring rain to help someone get set up.. However because of my regionality (is that a word) I can be a little, teensy weensy bit opinionated.. ahem.. so when I have noticed the rude posters, particularly those picking on newbies..
I know the post you are referring to (perhaps our little secret!), but this was a one-off and just the way I talk.. got them talking though eh?
Being a Yorkshireman I dont ever apologise for my behaviour but if I am a little curt then it's just a bad day.. but no excuse..
Interesting post by the mods though.. seems there was some substance in my suspicions after all.

I must have missed something! I thought we had been quite well behaved recently. If you think something is really bad you can always use the report button and let admin sort it out.
Cheers David, I would agree
As you say yourself, it's probably you who has changed, and responding more agressively lately, not the other posters:
This is probably a result of my own frustrations and being brought into an argument
It's pretty clear to me what the consensus is, and to save going round in circles, I'm closing this now
