Hello mate.

For to make your gifs, I would use fireworks.
It is part of the Macromedia suite. Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks.
You can get each proggy seperate.
I think they are the best available, you will find others maybe by using Google to search for software of thes kind.
You will find the Macromedia suite a big advantage in your web design and everyday graphic design.

I've got Fireworks as part of the Studio MX Suite.
Never thought of using that and will give it a try.
